PORTRAIT OF PRE-ISLAMIC ARAB SOCIETY (JAHILIYYAH) After previously discussing the political and religious conditions in the Arabian Peninsula, we still have the social, political, and moral conditions to cover. Here is a brief overview:

Moral Conditions We cannot deny that Jahiliyyah society was identified with vile living, prostitution, and other things rejected by sound reason and feeling. Yet they also possessed noble and praiseworthy qualities that captivated anyone who saw them and filled them with wonder. Among those qualities were: Generosity They competed in this trait and boasted about it. Half of their poetry was filled with expressions of this quality, whether praising themselves or others who possessed it. A man might receive a guest in freezing winter, amid lingering hunger, when he owned nothing but a single she-camel that was the only source of livelihood for himself and his family. Yet the stirring of generosity in his chest made him not hesitate to offer his guest a special meal, and he would slaughter that only camel.
