It really won't be the same without Mike leading the #CouchPeloton pack. #CyclingCentral #SBSCycling

A media scrum. What's going on? Must be someone important. Who is that little guy? Oh look, it's @richie_porte, winner of this year's Santos Tour Down Under. @SantosLtd @tourdownunder @EventsSA @GraysPRAus #TourDownUnder #Adelaide #AdelaidePhotographer #UCIWorldTour #cycling
Helpful hint to bike computer manufacturers: make the diagram that shows how to attach the computer to the bike the biggest thing in the instructions. A person shouldn't need a magnifying glass to work out where the cable ties go.

Nonsense. It is vital to have infrastructure that makes cycling safe for all ages and abilities. Helmet compulsion is a red herring bordering on victim blaming.

Listening to Paris Deputy Mayor @C_Najdovski explain how they’ve put in 50kms of COVID-19 wide, continuous, protected bike lanes so far. The result: 130% to 150% increase in bikes, 70% fall in public transport use, car use the same - we need this in Aust before we go back to work

A striking 80% of Dutch youth (age 12-17) cycle to places (school, park, shop, friend’s) at least three days per week. This does not differ between males and females; each of whom spend an average of 150 minutes cycling per week. More facts and figures: ow.ly/Pq0i50xfV0w

.@DrBenBeck is talking about bike crashes. 40 per cent of crashes are single bicycle only (didn't crash into another vehicle). However, 20 per cent of these still involved a vehicle, perhaps dodging a car door or unpredictable driving.

It's the end of the first week of the semester. Great to see so many everyday riders at #UniOfAdelaide taking advantage of the great riding weather. #Adelaide #AdelaideUni #everydayrider #rideeveryday

Adelaide is flat. Great weather, nearly always mild & dry. 3/4 of 4 million daily trips < 6km long. Cycling mode share? 1% and falling. Why? Nearly all roads & streets are prioritised for 50k+ motoring. Even a repeal of &%#! helmet law would probably only double the cycling rate.

Sydney Muslim Cyclists - raised more than $50,000 for our farmers in today’s Drought Relief Ride. 3 groups of riders cycled to Brighton-Le-Sands from Belmore Sports Ground and return. Sadly, you won’t see great stories like this on mainstream media. Chapeau legends!

Lots of everyday riders out this morning for the @BikeInstituteSA mass ride at the #T2T community open day. #RideEveryday #EverydayRider #Adelaide

The purpose of the ride was to remind the powers that be (and everyone else that was there) how many cyclists there are, and to highlight the difference between what is spent on infrastructure for motor vehicles and what is spent on infrastructure for alternative transport.

Because the more money that's spent on alternative transport, the more riders there'll be. And the more riders there are, the more space on the roads for motor vehicles there'll be. Doesn't that sound like a great idea?
Wouldn't it be great if a national political leader made a speech at a state/national conference, espousing the virtues of commuter cycling and dedicating funding for cycling infrastructure?
You know what I wish I could see more of when I ride my bike to the shops? More people who've ridden to the shops.

Imagine if more people did that. How much more car parking space would there be for people who can't ride, and how much closer could they get to the entrances?

One in 25 Adelaide drivers uses a mobile phone when driving. (scroll down for figures for other capitals) teapawt.net/DarrenDavis10/status/1…
1 in 30 motorists caught using cell phones (where there is very little enforcement) while driving on a 100km/h stretch of #Auckland’s Southern Motorway at E Tāmaki Rd (yet the moral panic is more often about ‘distracted’ pedestrians at <6km/h). nzh.tw/12068078
