Crazy to think we’re only 5 days away from reading about how Seb Coe went for his second run of the day. Truly the most wonderful time of the year.

Increasing athlete compliance (even with a program that is less efficacious) can end up with greater community effectiveness. Perhaps the “perfect program” is not always the best program—@EvertVerhagen 🤔#IOCprev2021 – at Monaco

Communication the key element of monitoring athletes. Make sure that the message has a meaning for them. #IOCprev2021 @EvertVerhagen

Plotting performance trends for athletes who've returned positive doping tests is interesting! Most athletes' age-performance trajectories follow a quadratic (curved) trend... So linear trends stand out. Example from Athletics, Women's 1500m: - Shelby Houlihan, ➕ve Jan 2021

Imagine winning the US Olympic trials only to find out your inter-limb GCT asymmetry is 8% and you won’t get picked 🤣

There are two types of coach/athlete relationships. One where the coach helps the athlete reach her/his goals, and one where the athlete helps the coach reach his/her goals. Probably a middle ground also, but I know which end of that spectrum is the more healthy relationship.

A recommended podcast is last week's Inside Running Podcast interview with Zatopek silver medallist @izzibattdoyle. Very open with her development years, college in the US and her training. insiderunningpodcast.podbean… 📷courtesy of @athsvic

Outstanding by @izzibattdoyle at Zatopek 10 national title in Melbourne tonight. Second place after a bold move with 3 laps to go. Awesome to watch. 👏

I’ve worked with some talented athletes that lacked passion. I’ve also worked with some passionate athletes that lacked talent. Of the 2 groups, I always prefer the latter as they have a better grasp of reality and realize what they don’t have.

The real inspiration of the day is @mardy_hehir serving as a role model for all the other medical-residents-fathers-of-two-while-running-120-mile-weeks.

Anyone can be great occasionally. When everything comes together and you're in the zone, performance is easy. What's really hard is being pretty darn good, day after day. Raise the floor. Not just the ceiling.
