USYK STOPS DUBOIS IN NINE AFTER REFEREE RULES CONTROVERSIAL BODY SHOT LOW Oleksandr Usyk defended his heavyweight titles by stopping Daniel Dubois in the ninth round in Wroclaw. Usyk dictated the early pace with sharp southpaw jabs and movement while Dubois advanced steadily seeking body shots. In round five Dubois connected with a right hand that sent Usyk to the canvas in clear distress. Referee Luis Pabon immediately called it a low blow and allowed Usyk almost four minutes to recover without deducting a point. The epic moment arrived when Usyk recovered and later dropped Dubois in round eight before finishing him with a right hand early in the ninth. The stoppage meant no final scorecards were needed as the referee waved the fight off after the second knockdown. Controversy lingered as Daniel Dubois claimed the shot was legal and that he had been cheated of victory.

After two rounds the scorecards stood split, with two judges favoring Hagler 20-18 and one seeing it for Hearns. In round three the cut reopened badly, prompting referee Richard Steele to call in the doctor. Cleared to continue, Hagler unleashed a furious attack that dropped Hearns to the canvas. Steele stopped the fight at 1:52 as Hearns rose unsteadily, awarding Hagler the TKO victory in an epic war.

YOUNG TYSON DEMOLISHES BERBICK TO CLAIM FIRST WORLD TITLE Mike Tyson stormed forward from the opening bell against Trevor Berbick in Las Vegas. The twenty-year-old challenger landed heavy combinations that immediately put the champion on the defensive. All three judges scored the opening round for Tyson as he controlled the action completely. Early in round two a left hook dropped Berbick who rose but looked unsteady. Tyson pressed the attack relentlessly until another crushing left hook sent Berbick crashing again. Referee Mills Lane watched as Berbick staggered wildly and fell repeatedly while trying to stand. Lane stopped the fight at 2:35 of the second round awarding Tyson the TKO and WBC heavyweight crown as the youngest champion ever.
