I am indifferent towards Olivia Chow. Don’t feel like anything has gotten better or worst since shes been mayor. Fuck is she hard to listen to though lol Brad Bradford has the name of an Npc but he’s clearing her in debates rn lol #TORONTO

Unpopular opinion: Niagara region needs one mayor, and multiple councillors to represent each city and rural area l, I’d also support semi almagation into 4 Cities. St.Catharines Niagara Falls Welland Niagara South #ONPoli

Battle rappers think cuz they know surf and don’t know Rome that it also correlates to the average listener…. The average hip hop head don’t know who Surf is

The fact that Rome Streetz knows who yall are… but yall claim yall don’t know who he is, when he’s the overall bigger artist, just means he’s more hip hop inclined & knowledgeable than yall are!! 😂😂😂 YALL BE TELLING ON Yallselves & don’t know it!

Bring it back…. To where it started
I rarely share unfinished work but was writing a deck for another project on battle rap and thought it might be cool to hear thoughts on where the culture is right now. We live in a moment obsessed with becoming something. People reinvent themselves. Neighborhoods transform. Entire creative industries are being reshaped by technology, changing audiences and new definitions of success. Actors, filmmakers, musicians and writers are confronting a troubling possibility: the opportunities they spent decades preparing for may no longer exist in the forms they imagined. Battle rap is confronting its own version of that question. For years, the culture seemed on the verge of a mainstream breakthrough. Major investors arrived, production budgets grew and battle rappers were finally being compensated at levels once unimaginable. I witnessed that ambition firsthand at Caffeine, A FOX-backed streaming platform that partnered with the URL and invested heavily in bringing battle rap to a larger audience. Despite substantial financial backing, the platform shut down in 2024 without achieving profitability. But mainstream success was never simply a matter of money. Battle rap is built on confrontation, and parts of the culture have long tolerated death threats, homophobic and misogynistic attacks, racist material and deeply personal humiliation. What an audience inside the room accepts as competition can become unacceptable to advertisers, investors and mainstream audiences. The very freedom that makes battle rap compelling can also make it difficult to commercialize. Inside the culture, there's a painful sentiment: We blew our opportunity. And it doesn't feel like another one is coming. With investors seemingly reluctant to return and ppv piracy threatening an already difficult business model, many wonder whether battle rap's greatest commercial moment has passed. But there's a harder possibility to consider. What if battle rap isn't dying? What if it's returning to where it began? Before the investors, streaming platforms and six-figure contracts, there were two people on a street corner, surrounded by a handful of people who stopped to listen. No cameras. No sponsors. No promise of a career. Just two people with something to prove and an audience willing to hear them. That doesnt make the loss of opportunity any less painful. Artists still need to survive. But perhaps battle rap, like film, music and theater, may find some of its most meaningful expressions in smaller rooms, for smaller audiences. Battle rap may never be bigger than it was. That doesn't mean it's best stories have already been told.
