Turning the 33 into a full or partial tunnel would be a far worse generational blunder than anything they might do with a Bills stadium

NEW: Utility political action committees (PACs) have poured $11.5 million into congressional races this cycle, a drop from the $13.6 million they had contributed by the same point in 2024.

This could be interpreted as Musk's political operation just spending money in MI, then documenting "contributions" ex post facto so the expenditures are covered in the filing.
It's not exactly kosher, but easy to do when you have a single donor with virtually unlimited cash.

I think the fact that Marissa Mayer would voluntarily disclose this to a reporter is a pretty good demonstration of how deeply the culture of Silicon Valley has diverged from the rest of humanity
We have an article coming soon touching this, but one notable set of donations here are from Terry & Kim Pegula, billionaire GOP donors who have sat out NYS politics for several years but maxed to Hochul & NYS Dems in 2026 as they seek more subsidies for the Buffalo Sabres arena

The NYS Democratic Committee transferred another $6.5 million to Kathy Hochul this month, new filing shows—bringing its support to $16.5M total.
This has been a useful setup for Hochul, since the party can take donations of up to $138,600 from individuals vs. $9K for candidates

⚡️ Mayor Zohran Mamdani's NYPD is poised to sign a three-year, $750,500 no-bid contract with Israeli surveillance firm Cognyte for FalcoNet, an AI-driven device that mimics a cell tower to track phones and can be mounted on police cars and drones or hidden in a backpack, the New York Daily News reported.
Cognyte won a tender to sell intercept spyware to Myanmar's state telecom weeks before the 2021 military coup, Reuters previously reported. Meta banned the firm the same year, saying its customers used fake accounts to target journalists and politicians in Kenya, Mexico and Indonesia.
The firm is part of an Israeli surveillance industry that grew big as a result of the military's monitoring of Palestinians, whose phone calls Israel's Unit 8200 has intercepted and stored by the millions, including to carry out genocide in Gaza and enforce a brutal illegal occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Oh give me a break. Hochul is a private school-educated daughter of a corporate executive who constantly runs down WNY by exempting us from benefits awarded to NYC and exploits us by affecting an offensive and hacky Buffalo dipshit schtick whenever she thinks it's to her benefit.
“That was hurtful, and it gives us a chip on our shoulder — one that I still have today,” @KathyHochul in @nytimes. “People look down on us...People mocked us all the time. So that’s been our psyche. And I just thought, ‘But we’re not losers.’”

“We invested in them. That’s different from backing them” why is there never anyone who asks “what the hell are you talking about?”
CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, on the business model of neoclouds and the possibility of bailing them out:
"Number one, we invested in them. That's different than backing them. We invested in them because we think it's a good investment. I can prove it. The reason for that is because all of the neoclouds, their demands are incredible. The demand of their compute is incredible. They have contracts from large companies, small companies. They are completely sold out."
"Needing to secure more land, power, shell. Needing to secure more compute, which is therefore, needing more capital, more working capital.'
"They need working capital. Because the demand for capital is so high, interest rates are starting to go up. Remember, it is because demand for capital is so high. Why is demand for capital so high? Because the demand for AI is so high. That's what's driving it."
"Everything else will get solved when demand is high."

Doesn’t move my inner needle away from total opposition to the death penalty. People should let go of redemption stories and recognize that some individuals are going to be destructive pieces of shit to the end. The reason we don’t execute them is our own dignity and moral worth
In 1996, a Chicago news anchor got a videotape in the mail that nobody was supposed to see. It had been filmed in secret inside a maximum security prison eight years earlier.
The man on the tape was Richard Speck. In July 1966 he broke into a townhouse on Chicago's South Side and killed eight student nurses in one night. A ninth woman, Corazon Amurao, survived by hiding under a bunk bed and later pointed at him in court. The jury took about 45 minutes to convict him.
He was sentenced to death. In 1972 that became life, and he spent the next two decades at Stateville.
In the video below, you see what that life looked like. Speck is snorting what looks like cocaine with other inmates and counting a roll of hundred dollar bills. He's wearing women's underwear, and his body looks like he had been taking hormones.
Someone off camera asks him if he killed those nurses.
"Sure I did," he says. "It just wasn't their night."
He calls himself God, and the devil. He says he wants to live forever. Then he laughs and says that if people only knew how much fun he was having in there, they would turn him loose.
He had already been dead for five years when the tape came out. He died of a heart attack in 1991, the day before his 50th birthday, after doctors spent four hours trying to save him.
Illinois lawmakers held hearings on how a tape like that could be made in a maximum security prison. The families of the nurses had sat through parole hearing after parole hearing, and now they watched him laugh about it.
Is life in prison a punishment, if this is what it looks like on the inside?
