There's nothing more heartfelt than the new ass. sup. of curriculum reminiscing about their time in the classroom from the late '90s. "Back when I was a teacher, students would run to my class because they knew I would engage them in the learning process."

Sometimes it feels like Millennials, who were born after the lead poisoning but before the algorithms, are the only truly sane generation.

Sports are fun, but they’re also a beautiful tool to teach young people valuable life lessons. Like “Work hard”, “Support your teammates”, and “Sometimes life is rigged in favor of those with more resources.”

The board is sparing no expense when it comes to our students. No, they aren't supplying you with classroom necessities, but they did hire an expensive, and therefore effective, educelebrity to lead next week's welcome-back PDs. Bring your gallery-walking shoes!

Maybe making travel soccer even more expensive will help the US finally get good.

The erosion of K-12 accountability at all levels—districts, schools, teachers & students—since 2016 has corresponded with a drop in outcomes. The fad of the moment in education is "science of reading", but without addressing low standards, curriculum changes alone won't work.

This is a blueprint for raising tiny marauding narcissists who believe they’re the center of the cosmos. You should absolutely not do this. You should live your life. Be interesting. Bring your kids with you. Make them adapt. They’ll respect you. You’ll respect yourself.
My super strong parenting opinion is that while the kids are awake, you come last.
No spending all of Saturday golfing. That’s family time. 6 am tee time only, maybe.
Wanna go to the gym? Go after the kids go to bed, or wake up at 5.
In a few short years, they’ll be out of the house and you’ll have all the time in the world for your own stuff. It’s okay to come last for a while.

Insane to me that the sales pitch for AI is, “It will put you permanently out of work and completely replace human artists, writers and musicians. All the fun things that once gave your life joy and meaning will now be done by machines. Get on board!”

In The Anxious Generation, I underestimated the harm from the phone-based childhood because I focused on the mental health outcomes, which is where we had the best data while I was writing the book.
I now believe that the widespread diminishment of the human capacity to pay attention is an even larger harm, affecting the majority of children, and even many adults. Diminished focus, executive function, and book-reading means diminished life chances.

I wrote about Chicago, and why it's the most American city, while stuck in a McDonald's during the morning, and a dive bar at night, by any icy cold.
