Later that night still in hospital he had a brain aneurism & died. Lucha Libre was huge on TV at the time so this became sensationalized to the point Konnan was accused of murdering Davis. He even got kicked out of the funeral. People who hated Konnan wanted him deported for it.

In reality people who saw the match noted the blows were clearly worked & not enough to cause any serious damage. (This is the story as I know it, others have different accounts)
