NEW: It was a digital lynching. And the media is never going to hold itself to account for the role it played in Jason Arday’s death.
But there are things we can do. This is a practical guide based on my own experience.

To those telling the Green Party to “get back in its lane” here’s another reminder that war, the economy and climate breakdown are all connected.
Food security isn’t just farming policy.
It’s climate policy, national security and social justice all at once. theguardian.com/global-devel…

Extraordinary press conference just now in San Francisco where @SFCityAttorney David Chiu has just announced a lawsuit against the largest manufacturers of Ultra-Processed Foods, including Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Post Holdings, Coca Cola, Pepsi, General Mills, Nestle USA, Kelloggs, Mars and Con Agra brands...🧵

Excellent overview of our Lancet Series on UPFs and human health by Rob Percival. Rob is one of the non-UPF creators who has best captured Nova and the UPF concept.
The new Lancet series on UPF is just great. Especially in its articulation of the core Nova hypothesis, which critics often seem to misunderstand.

Key point in a great thread. Bourgeois environmentalism waves its hands about labelling & additives etc etc. A tweak here & there...We need to go way way beyond that. If that hasn't been clear for decades. What do people think "system change" means? I do wonder.
Replying to @Rob_Percival_
As paper 3 explains, the global food system has been progressively skewed by processes of financialsation and corporate consolidation into a machine of extractive accumulation. There is simply more money in UPF than whole foods, and the system has been rewired in response.

The harms that come from the thermal, mechanical, and chemical “ultra-processing” of products get the headlines, but they are just part of the problem of the global system of food production where the incentives are in conflict with human and planetary health. If you want to understand the deep sophistication of the UPF concept this excellent thread lays them out with crystal clarity…🧵

Excellent overview Rob - you've succinctly laid out the hypothesis and how its 3 core claims are sequentially presented in each of the 3 papers that comprise the Series. The Series itself, is a nice example of the aphorism that the 'whole is more than the sum of its parts'.
