Today I asked my colleagues to pass my universal firearms background checks legislation. It's supported by 90% of Americans and would save thousands of lives.
Republicans blocked it.
Three hours later, another mass shooting in UNLV.
This carnage is a choice.
@vrbo The house's doorknobs to the property were falling off. The utility company showed up to tell us the gas was being shut off due to nonpayment and that the electricity was also about to be turned off (and that someone may or may not show up to do so.)
The fire alarms went off multiple times in my son's room in the middle of the night. We left the property as it was unsafe to stay in the home. The owner is not cooperating with a refund and @vrbo told us to just keep contacting the owner; there's nothing else they can do.
If this was later in the evening it would make for an amusing drinking game.

being in California or New York will not save you from what’s coming if Republicans retake control of Congress and the White House

Do you wonder about the people who think COVID vaccines are useless but that single-door schools are effective

These massacres aren’t natural disasters, acts of God, or random.
They are totally predictable, direct consequences of the choices made by Greg Abbott and the majority of those in the legislature.
Texas has had eight mass shootings in the past 13 years.
At the same time, Texas lawmakers have steadily loosened restrictions on carrying firearms. bit.ly/3MY4x24

Governor Abbott, if you have any decency, you will immediately withdraw from this weekend’s NRA convention and urge them to hold it anywhere but Texas.

We’re also angry for them. Nearly ten years after Sandy Hook—and ten days after Buffalo—our country is paralyzed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies.

There is no such thing as being “pro-life” while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place.
It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end.

I get it. People are upset that they're paying higher prices.
But what I don't get is why people are mad at Joe Biden instead of furious at the corporate goons who raised those prices to rake in record profits.

In the 20 years since 9/11, the United States spent $8,000,000,000,000+ on war. Can you imagine if we had instead invested those funds in climate, health care, and education?
