It is utterly shameful that in a European nation in 2024 a Jewish woman cannot even leave her hotel room as her life may be in danger from a baying mob of vitriolic antisemites below, some even calling for her to be deported simply because she is Jewish. Such short memories.

When people donated their hard earned money to a charity to build and maintain London’s bridges over the last 850 years - I can guarantee you that not one of them expected that their money would be diverted to organisations called:

Call me old fashioned, but I think a charity established to maintain London's bridges should maintain London's crumbling bridges. Instead, £840 *million* of its endowment has been spaffed on spurious “social justice” causes.

The bodies of people who died thousands of years ago get more consideration in Scotland than female nurses who don’t want a bloke staring at them as they undress or getting his giblets out in the ladies changing room at work.

To clarify. It’s actually even worse. The horror of what our families face is this: my son’s killer, Valdo Calocane, was given a Section 37/41 hospital order. This is medical care, not a penal sentence. By January 2027—the 3-year mark—he can legally apply to a tribunal to come out if deemed well enough. Worse, until our recent fight to close the loophole, these criminal patients actively pocketed up to £800/month in state benefits from their hospital beds. A hospital order is not prison. We face a life sentence ensuring this monster is never released. #JusticeForBarnaby #NottinghamAttacks 💚💛

I went to this session with a fairly bog standard left wing 'stay and make a noise' argument. I'm still not convinced that's entirely wrong. But I was struck by the number of women ex-trade unionists who spoke about the depths of betrayal, disrespect, and even contempt that they've faced. I think many union leaders are isolated from their members by a kind of crisis of internal democracy - they live in a bubble and they don't have any real conception of the antipathy that is felt towards them both by women members and this who have left. This is really serious. And really bad for the labour movement. So, reflecting.
A discussion about the failure of unions in the face of GC harassment. @DarlingtonUnion's Bethany's talk amazing. She ended with unions have abandoned us to let's rebuild. @RosieDuffield1 smash the unions? Yes. @runthinkwrite distinguish between leadership and role of trade unionists "I don't need an additional HR department that I pay subs to for them to police my views" @JimButcher2 had to leave the union for moral grounds because of their support for harming children. - Literal convicted ISIS terrorist - served 4+ years in prison in Germany for terrorist activities - ECHR Art 3 blocks his removal to Iraq - subsequently enters Britain illegally by small boat in December 2025 - arrested days later - sentenced to two years in prison in July 2026 - released from prison last week - made a fresh application to remain in Britain, delaying Home Office extradition attempts - still a literal ISIS terrorist

Ce magnifique édifice — un monument démocratique — n’existe plus après ce soir. Les barbares sont en train de l’emporter.
These degenerates can destroy, but they can only dream of being able to create something so beautiful. The French govt could have chosen to protect this and other historic sites. Instead it chose to indulge the savages. What a mess

Britain’s public service broadcaster doesn’t have a single correspondent in South America because of budget cuts, yet devotes resources to pumping out slop like this every day.

A parliamentarian told me, during the original online safety bill debate, that they felt they couldn’t speak their mind because a bereaved parent was present in the gallery. Bereaved parents are now a key reason why the government is pursuing a social media ban for under-16s. This is despite pretty much all the children’s charities (including the Molly Russell Foundation, ironically) opposing the measure, it being well-understood that the ban has failed in Australia, and there being little evidence that it will make anyone safer or happier in the UK. A pretty miserable situation, but some great reporting on how suicide has been weaponised by campaigners despite little evidence that suicides are increasing by @duncanrobinson in @TheEconomist.
Piece on role suicide now plays in British politics

It’s completely inappropriate. Civil servants should be neutral. Subscribing to a very contested idiology (and suggesting we all do the same) is anything but neutral.

It is wholly unacceptable for a Cabinet Office employee to perform adherence to gender ideology in this way.
Just got an email from a press officer at the Cabinet Office who has her pronouns in her email signature along with a link to an article saying we should all be doing the same thing Is this the official position of the government? because if so I think we should know

I’ve seen modern China likened to 19th century Britain, as a rapidly industrialising power. Ironically we are starting to resemble 19th century China. The parallels are uncanny. Let me walk you through our own Century of National Humiliation… 🧵

The insistence on teaching boring snoring social history is what has killed it as a discipline. More battles, more kings, more gossip.
Mary Beard at Cheltenham LitFest has apparently said "children should be taught more engaging stories about how ordinary people lived" rather than traditional dates & battles. Would be some good mischievous fun to actually ask kids about this, & break down the answers by sex.

I’d like to hear from these politicians who “accept the SC judgment” but think the EHRC code of practice is “unworkable” precisely how they’d reduce the judgment into “workable” guidance. And I do mean precisely.

It’s a tough job being Chair of the Labour Party. Just ask Bridget Phillipson. I wrote to her on the 21st September offering to work with her cross party and to set up a meeting with the Piddington women and to meet rape gang survivors together. You see in case you’d missed it - Bridget is also the Women’s and Equalities Minister. I’ve not had a reply. I guess because I’m not a Labour voter. But she has told the media the answer is no, so we know she won’t work cross-party on women’s safety. The taxpayer is paying Bridget Phillipson to be the Women and Equalities Minister, not to Chair the Labour Party. But she is Chair of the Labour Party first, Women and Equalities Minister second.

This is why we can’t get anything done. The average age a young person buys their first home is 34. Natural England is blocking new homes from being built NEXT to a train station. Every 30 minutes a train leaves for Central London in Woldingham. You might be thinking “don’t new planning rules allow housebuilding within 500 metres of a train station?” You are *supposed* to be correct. But… Natural England hates giving young people a shot in life. So, they’ve come up with a loophole. They are now designating areas outside train stations as having “outstanding natural beauty" Now NO homes can be built here. We could abolish Natural England tomorrow and be done with this for GOOD. So, do you agree?
