Strengthening the voices of Indigenous youth in regional spaces such as the #APFSD2025 is important @UNMGCY @IPMGSDG @yugratna
#APFSD2025 ⅼ Ananya Drong from the Bangladesh Indigenous Youth Forum highlights that while IPs welcome the references to Indigenous Peoples in the Pact for the future, IPs continue to experience systemic exclusion in participation, and access to resources and opportunities.

🌞 Solar Power at the Cost of Indigenous Rights? In the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in Assam🇮🇳 , a 1,000 MW solar project funded partly by the Asian Development Bank is being pushed through despite fierce resistance from Indigenous communities. 🔴 This project threatens the homes, lands, and livelihoods of 9,000 Indigenous villagers across 23 villages in a constitutionally protected tribal area. 💬 Indigenous landowners report being threatened to accept the project, raising serious concerns about rights violations. 📢 Clean energy must not come at the expense of justice and indigenous rights! Support the call to protect Indigenous rights and ancestral lands. Story by @irac_india Read and share: tinyurl.com/AssamSolarProjec…

✨🏆 It fills us with joy to announce that Joan Carling, IPRI’s Executive Director, has made history as the first Filipino Indigenous activist to receive the 2024 @rightlivelihood Award – a prestigious honour celebrating courageous change-makers since 1980. “This award is not only for myself but for all Indigenous peoples and defenders around the world who stand on the frontlines of justice and environmental protection. This recognition is a powerful affirmation of our struggles, resilience, and the essential role we play in safeguarding the Earth for future generations..” – @JoanCarling We need solidarity, commitment and actions to ensure that the rights of Indigenous peoples are upheld, that our lands are protected, and that we are free from persecution for defending them for the benefit of humanity as a whole💚

While wars and conflicts leave scars in history, they make our planet pay the ultimate price. According to the @UNEP, conflicts are driven by the exploitation of high-value resources such as timber, diamonds, gold, and oil, as well as scarce resources like land and water.

Tonight, we launched the Bikita Report at the #ZAMI2024, exposing the harsh realities of lithium mining on local communities. This report sheds light on issues of corporate accountability, inadequate benefit-sharing, and environmental degradation faced by the people of Bikita. It’s a call for justice and for the mining sector to put communities first. Stay tuned—the report goes live soon.
