Kantha in Bengali means cloth, traditionally made from the best parts of old worn saris or dhotis. Also the name of a way of stitching in which variations of running stitch are worked though all the layers of cloth, quilting them together, creating intricate designs #WomensArt

Opportunity! 🔥 This Friday, The Writing Community Chat Show welcomes Robin Bernstein – Harvard Professor, award-winning author, and one of the leading voices on race, culture, and history in America. Robin’s latest book, “Freeman's Challenge: The Murder that Shook America’s Original Prison for Profit,” is already earning high praise from Angela Y. Davis, Ibram X. Kendi, Heather Ann Thompson, and more. Her work has changed how we see race, childhood, and performance in US history. 🎙️ Here’s the twist… CJ won’t be in the hot seat this week. Instead, YOU could join Chris Hooley live to co-host and interview Robin yourself. That’s right: a rare chance to sit across (virtually) from one of Harvard’s most compelling minds and ask your own questions. ✨ This is your moment to step into the spotlight. Will you take it? 👀 Tag someone who would absolutely smash this opportunity or drop us a message if you’re brave enough to join. 📅 Friday, 8PM UK Time.

This was my first encounter with Mamdani and it really stuck. Had never heard of him and this video made a big impression.
Why did so many working class New Yorkers vote for Donald Trump last week — and even more not vote at all? I went to Hillside Ave in Queens and Fordham Rd in the Bronx to find out.

Today a woman with developmental disabilities came into the library, and said she was lost. She didn't know her address, but her phone number was in her pocket on a piece of paper with Elmo on it. She kept saying, "The library is a safe place."

Nona Faustine’s 2021 artwork "Dorothy Angola, Stay Free, In Land Of The Blacks" was taken on Minetta Lane in Greenwich Village, New York City. The work reimagines Dorothy Creole—one of the first African women to arrive in New Amsterdam in 1627. Alongside two others, she was brought by the Dutch West India Company to serve as a wife to enslaved African men. In 1644, Dorothy and her husband Paulo d’Angola petitioned for and received 'half-freedom' and a land grant in what became known as the “Land of the Blacks,” one of the first free black communities in North America. Today, only Minetta Lane remains as a trace of this early black settlement on Manhattan Island.
