I just pulled the plug on Wisprflow after infuriatingly low latency making me twiddle my thumbs for every prompt to load. Moved to @SpokenlyApp using local hosted parakeet model. Wow, what a difference. My only regret isn't moving across to this approach sooner.

I need to check my expectations. To all senior developers - how many PRs would you merge on an average day before AI? Rough order of magnitude? I suspect my expectations are way out of line, getting impatient now at how long it takes to merge 19 PRs. I need some perspective.

If AI models experience model collapse when trained on AI-generated data. Does that mean that inherently AI-generated data is inferior to human-generated data? Else what would be the problem of training AI models on AI data? So many questions.
32
What is the implication of watermarking AI-generated code? Is there a perception that AI-generated code is inferior to human-generated code? If so, for how long will that perception last with the exponential improvements in models?

'Actually' and 'honestly' - in my list of banned words thanks to AI. Any others I should add?

When using agents, ensure that everything that can be deterministic, is done with a deterministic tool. Don't try to get the poor agents to follow a deterministic process.

This is great advice if wanting to change Claude output style - i didn't even know that you could update this.
Replying to @mattpocockuk
try custom output styles. it works a lot better. like a lot

I've started using Deepseek V4 flash via Fireworks. Benchmarks are too good to ignore at their price point. Still using Claude code, but finally introducing adversarial reviewers.

The advantage with using via @FireworksAI_HQ is the model is hosted on western servers, so for business use cases it's much more palatable than sending my data to China!

I'm using drawio.com/ With my Claude agents to build end-to-end process maps for my fire protection operating system. A few use cases - human-to-agent shared overview to spot gaps, support Agent SOP Documentation, walk through material with clients. It's helpful

For the B2B applications I'm building, I'm finding myself not needing AI in the solution as much. A surprising amount of business operations can be dramatically improved with deterministic code, which is far cheaper and, importantly, bring far more consistent outcomes.

So AI is revolutionary in the sense it's helping me to make get to that deterministic setup for end users, only reserving AI inference for the subjective/patchy outcomes.

For multi-session builds and feature updates, I've started asking my agent to write the short prompt to kick off the fresh session, and I review it to make sure I agree with the starter. It seems to help with continuity and speed. I do use loops too but outcomes have been patchy.

I've been reflecting on this. As an SME, to build full-service software, you need a £200+ per month AI plan or expensive tokens on the API. If a software is priced below £200 per month, then do the economics really make sense to build your own? It's a hard trade on time/money.
what a slap in the face to “software is dead” some people may think “agents will handle the maintenance”, but are you sure it’s cheaper buying tokens for the agents than just buying the software? basic economics - if a piece of software takes $1m worth of tokens to make, one company can make it and sell to a million customers. with some profit margin baked in, each customer might get it at $5 if everyone makes the software by themselves, everyone will pay $1m of tokens each building the same thing over and over again. and for what? for a few vibe coders in the company to enjoy their five minute of fame and say “look! i can build jira”?

software is not dying. You're making too large of an assumption because you're in a bubble that reinforces the idea that people take initiative. Could I make a burger, buy all the supplies, stand there to cook it, season it, etc.? Yeah, I could. But you're in the mindset of making the burger. Most people just want to go buy a burger. They don't want to deal with the complications and time it takes to actually make one. Plus, realize this: Most people just need a solution. They don't want to maintain it or keep building the solution if that wasn't even their original goal. Keep making the burger. There will always be customers.

Well articulated, a lot to unpack here
There’s still so much opportunity in the diffusion of AI into the real world. Most enterprises are going to need a ton of support to be able to apply the model breakthroughs to their workflows. Intelligence alone is not enough to transform most processes because you need to bridge that intelligence with real world feedback loops. That requires connecting to various enterprise systems, getting the right data to the AI, enabling humans to make decisions at different steps in a process through the right UX, having workflows that improve the underlying data and models over time, dealing with regulatory and compliance challenges, and more. The way you implement AI agents for doing client onboarding in a bank is entirely different from contract review in a legal team. In life sciences, financial services, legal, manufacturing, and many other critical industries, AI is only valuable if it makes contact with the real world in a contextual way. The way that interaction is going to happen is through an applied AI layer. Some of that will come from the labs directly, but lots of the opportunity will necessarily come from independent companies that can go deep in each industry. And counter to some beliefs, this need isn’t reduced even as AI model capability improves over time. In fact, the better the models get, the more ambitious you can be in the workflows you can automate, which generally requires even more of this applied layer. Tons of opportunity right now.

Can't start a fire without a spark... the universal truth of life, plus a great song

Advisors in Claude still doesn't work and there's an open issue on it with others confirming the same. When will one of your agent loops resolve this? @bcherny

This feels like the most important thing to implement in our setups before using any more Fable moving forward. I'll take 95% of the value for a fraction of the cost everyday...
A few patterns we frequently use with Fable 5: Use Fable 5 as an "advisor." An executor (Sonnet 5) calls Fable 5 for guidance. Most tokens are billed at the lower executor rate.

But I do not intend to use Sonnet 5 as the executor. Opus 4.8 High is my preference.
