People are doing great things for their communities. We have a grandparent who dusted off his karate gear and is teaching kids karate. Another who loves maths spends every day helping children with their maths homework, this is Soweto.

Please do not ask a bookworm if they are going to finish the books they have before buying more. It is very offensive in our culture.

The Oliver Tambo Foundation annual lecture was as many parts energising as it was sobering and reflective. Justice Madlanga was clear, we cannot keep waiting and watching, something drastic needs to be done by us, the people, to turn things around...

On mob violence: I’ll never forget “Eat Him If You Like,” a book by Jean Teulé. In it, he tells the true story of Alain de Monèys, a kind and well-respected nobleman, who falls victim to the vicious and violent whims of a mob of civilians after a misunderstanding.
As the title suggests, some of those involved eventually eat him after a string of extremely violent and horrific tortures have been enacted upon him.
If you’re out here trying to justify this horror, then I honestly don’t know how to tell you that a mob murdering a man in cold blood is wrong.

A mob of 50 people beating someone to death is barbaric. They should all rot in prison for murder. There must be consequences for killing another human being.

Xenophobia is not a national project in South Africa! Not in our name!
Down with violence against foreign nationals down!
My husband wants to start a 'Periods & Panties' father's group one day where they get together once or twice a month and hash out the hows and whys of being good dads to daughters - including knowing how to talk about and support in terms of periods, consent, etc.

No one should have the right, power to go around the streets attacking and killing immigrants. It’s wrong , inhumane and unacceptable.
We shouldn’t allow such in South Africa.
The sting of paying @CityofJoburgZA monthly - and then having to pay private companies to supply the basic services that the City doesn’t? Four days without water - and counting. Definitely not a fun time with a toddler and a newborn.

We condemn the horrific killing of a migrant in the Durban CBD this morning. @SAPoliceService all those found to be responsible and part of the group that attacked the man, must be arrested and prosecuted. No one has the right to take another person’s life, regardless of the reason. This attack is not an isolated incident. It represents the latest wave in a rising tide of violence against migrants in South Africa. The justice system must start acting as a deterrent to these attacks and killings.
@GovernmentZA has a legal obligation to protect everyone within its borders, regardless of nationality or immigration status. This includes taking strong measures to combat xenophobia, hatred and discrimination, preventing violence, responding swiftly when attacks occur, and ensuring justice for victims. Stronger political will is needed to put an end to discrimination against migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Xenophobia must be rejected. The right to life must be protected.
Everyone has human rights, regardless of nationality, language, documentation or where they call home.
