For this year's @OcTBRChallenge I'm going to focus on books and audiobooks that are either in French or translated from it. So my Bob Morane novels and comics, everything on @izneoBD, my Maigret audiobooks, maybe some plays. Should be fun.

35. The Atheist's Mass by Honoré de Balzac. Long time since I last read Balzac and I'd forgotten what an entertaining writer he is, full of crazy twists. Two stories here, the first being about the mystery of an atheist seen sneaking into church to celebrate mass. #OcTBRChallenge

One more novel I want to finish for #OcTBRChallenge on Saturday, then I will do my best not to finish a book on Sunday. I need to break this streak to free myself. 😄 I have other things to do in my spare time, like two new issues of TQF and a Rafe McGregor collection to publish.

The new Key to Time omnibus. Some surprises already.
It's Friday! What are you reading this weekend?

I've been waiting all week to watch the apology video again and it had me in stitches again, but watching it on tv cannot possibly compare to being in a packed cinema as everyone reacts to each new face that appears.

From the ashes, Nano 2.0. I have a notebook and a graph, now I just need an idea.

Villeneuve hasn't cast many male British actors in his films and Daniel Kaluuya is one of them. But I doubt that whoever leaked the other names would care that much about sparing anyone the vitriol.
One source speculated that the mystery actor testing for 007 is an actor of color whose name is being withheld to spare him the inevitable racist vitriol that would be unleashed online — vitriol that may not be worth it unless he ultimately lands the role. theinsneider.com/p/james-bon…

Douglas Ogurek reviews the horror anthology Blood Bank: "If all the other stories tanked – they didn’t – this story would still make the anthology worth it. That’s how good it is."

Maybe but it also lists every film on all the services you currently subscribe to and lets you filter out those you've already seen. And when a friend comes over you can filter their watchlist to the films you've got. I couldn't really care less about other people's reviews.
I hate Letterboxd. I will always hate Letterboxd. It's a toxic, performative place, full of tryhards and idiots. Your reviews aren't good. They aren't funny or wise. You are not erudite enough to articulate your written thoughts on a movie in a way that adds ANY public value.

That's pretty much how I wrote my first novel, 9 to 5, 1000 words an hour, for a week. The crucial difference being that people actually wanted to read her books. 😄
Perhaps the single most extraordinary detail in the Barbara Cartland biography - a book full of extraordinary details - is *how* she was able to write a whole novel a week, right down to the manner in which the manuscript was physically delivered to her publisher
