Where I follow, others block. I welcome opposing views if expressed sensibly. Not a "leftie" not a "right whinger" either. Decidedly centrist.

Yes, even the Victorians knew they worked : to REDUCE not eliminate risk. You’re smarter than this, Julia. What’s your play? What’s your end goal? Really? Fascism? Is it Fascism? Because you won’t like it or where it leads, yet you’re *textbook* enabling it. Really.
But... but... the masks work, right? 🤪

In a world of myth and magic, you're worried about calories? Riiiiight, and that's the weirdest thing about Tolkien's Middle Earth?
Fantasy writers have no sense of the caloric requirements needed to keep this thing alive. A couple of these things would cause a mass extinction of all large mammals in a few years
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Ancalagon the Black from Tolkien's legendarium is a supernatural dragon bred and empowered by Morgoth, not a biological creature bound by real caloric requirements. Tolkien's world features magic such as lembas, sustained by the life of Aman beyond ordinary nutrition. tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Ancalagon tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Dragons tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Lembas en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragons_i…

How embarrassing must it be for Conservatives to forget January 6 and assume everyone else, all over the world, forgot it too?

I'm LOVING the fact MAGAts kept these sorts of tweets up.
This is the easiest fucking money you could make. No, you morons. Texas is not flipping.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Texas flipped in the 2026 gubernatorial election: Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeated incumbent Republican Greg Abbott. npr.org/2026/11/03/g-s… usatoday.com/story/news/pol… texastribune.org/2026/11/03/tex…

The same is true for you telling modern Brits, who never owned slaves, that you, who never picked cotton, have a right to an apology & funds from them! The majority of Brits HATE slavery, & know we had a part in it 200 years ago; most know we ENDED the Atlantic slave trade, too.

Friendly reminder: those military personnel are there to protect the people of the Falklands. You might want to read up on the events of May-June 1982 to work out why. You can frame it any way you want, but Argentina is the aggressor.

On behalf of the British people, I would like to apologise for the slave trade. I am sorry we were the first great power in history to turn its guns on it. I am sorry it cost us around 2,000 sailors to free 150,000 people they would never meet. I am sorry the rest of the world took so long to follow. Slavery did not begin with Britain. It is as old as civilisation. Babylon wrote it into law. Rome built an empire on it. The Vikings sold Englishmen through the slave market at Dublin. In 1625 Barbary corsairs took 60 men, women and children out of a Cornish church; by 1640 Parliament was told 3,000 to 5,000 English people were held in Algiers alone. Every great power of the age took part in the Atlantic trade. Portugal and Spain for a century before an English ship did. Then the Dutch, the French — and the British, who in the eighteenth century carried more than anyone. That is the record. It is not disputed here. Then a nation turned on the trade that had made it rich. Wilberforce's bill was beaten year after year. On 25 March 1807 it passed. Then Britain did the part the critics never mention — it sent the Royal Navy to enforce it. The West Africa Squadron sailed in 1808, two ships for 3,000 miles of coast, and hunted slavers for nearly sixty years. Britain paid Spain and Portugal to open their ships to search. HMS Black Joke ran down the slaver El Almirante in 1829 and found 466 people in her hold. Around 2,000 British sailors died doing it — most of fever, to free people they would never meet. 1,600 slave ships seized. 150,000 Africans set free. In 1833 Parliament borrowed £20 million to end slavery across the Empire. The debt was not finally redeemed until 2015. The United States needed a civil war. Cuba held slaves until 1886. Brazil until 1888 — eighty-one years after Westminster voted. Yes, we took part in the trade. Every power of the age did. None of them fought it like we did. So yes. I will apologise. I am sorry it cost us so much. I am sorry the rest of the world took so long to follow. That is not something you apologise for. That is something you teach. #history #britishhistory #royalnavy #westafricasquadron

I'm always amused that descendants of colonists who murdered or drove off the Native Americans in South America are arsey about British settlement of an uninhabited archipelago. You were saying @spidrbandito about how we were the bad guys in this. Do tell...

Nigel Farage reportedly "barricaded" in one of his houses with the property being patrolled by security guards. Described as being "scared for his life" after two Chihuahuas were seen in the vicinity. It is unclear if the dogs are Liberal Democrats.

History isn't Julien's thing, probably because Julien is a Yandex account or similar. My electronic brother in Christ @canthavepudding , the Ukrainians were a thing before the Grand Duchy of Muscovy was settled in a fucking swamp.
Ukraine as a nation state didn't exist before 1918. Then it lasted about 3 years.🙄 It didn't exist again until 1992. That's a total of 37 years.😐 So Ukraine barely existed before Putin, and Putin is older than the entire time it's existed.

No. Russia doesn't get to dictate how sovereign, democratic countries make and keep alliances. Your proposal is rejected: not because it would make the world less safe, but because the governments of the countries in question answer to their electorates, not to Vladimir Putin.
Any peace treaty between NATO and Russia should contain withdrawal of NATO back to pre-1997 borders.

If ever anyone needed more evidence of NOT voting for Reform - they are now claiming the aggressor, Russia, is "not our enemy" when they threaten us with nukes on the regular, and invade all their neighbours. Absolutely pathetic. And I don't even like Labour.

Just a reminder, those farmers were supported by France (who then went bankrupt as a result); and Britain no longer uses Brown Bess muskets. But as you're talking losing to farmers... well the US would know ALL about that, wouldn't they, given what happened in Vietnam.
Just a reminder the British lost to a bunch of farmers in 1776 #uk #Argentina
