Hah! Happy Halloween everyone!
Just called out one of the most egregious cases of stolen valor I’ve ever seen. Uniform all fucked up, hair WAY out of regulation, and completely the wrong age range. And the NERVE to ask me for candy? Get the fuck out of here, child. No way you ever served in the 82nd Airborne.

FIREARMS TRAFFICKERS FACE FEDERAL CHARGES. Agee and Harris have prior felony convictions involving robbery and firearms offenses. Now, Brian “B” Agee and Frank “Fatboy” Rayvone Harris face federal charges alongside Arnise Lecresha Young, Antonique Whitaker, and Christian Shedetta Atkinson in an alleged firearms trafficking network moving dozens of guns from North Carolina into D.C. and beyond. Young and Whitaker hold D.C. Special Police Officer licenses. Anyone entrusted with protecting the public must be held accountable when they allegedly help arm criminals. Crime Gun Intelligence (CGI), including firearms tracing, NIBIN, and touch DNA, helps us connect crime scenes, identify shooters, and expose the trafficking networks supplying them. I’m proud of our ATF agents and our partners on the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, including @USAO_DC, @USAO_EDNC, @PGPDNews, and @DCPoliceDept. We will follow the firearms, dismantle trafficking networks, and pursue those who fuel violence in our communities. Traffic firearms to criminals, and ATF will find you and hold you accountable. Operating across state lines will not save you. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. atf.widen.net/s/r8j2mwbqc8/v…

Been screaming it from the rooftops. Every CEO needs to send their 10x engineers into HR for like 1 week to gut the fuck out of it. It's the lowest hanging fruit across thousands of the largest corporations.

Was recently at a bar where drinks were dynamically priced, i.e. the more people bought a particular drink, the more expensive it became (price would then decayed over time towards a floor). Fascinating to watch a few market mechanisms play out in a bar: People ventured outside their usual orders in search of cheaper alternatives, often discovering new favorites in the process. Others treated rising prices as signals of quality, happily paying premiums to try expensive drinks they’d never had before. More experienced drinkers behaved like value investors, picking up underpriced drinks they already knew were good while everyone else chased the popular ones. Price discovery, information leakage, herding, and utility trades all unfolded over rounds of drinks. More bars should try this.

This. So much this. I've slogged at customer support jobs for years because every couple of years the boss would give me a cool challenge and a modest budget and let me get creative.
All the people screeching about the Tesla Roadster flying car demo don't get it. Nobody thinks this is going to be a practical flying car sold to the mass market, and you just look like a fool debating it. Elon doesn't, Tesla doesn't, the engineers working on it don't, and any sensible public or Tesla investor doesn't. They know they aren't going to sell more than a handful or them or whatever for funsies, that's why it's literally "invite only" on the order page. There is absolutely no sensible business decision to spend 7 years working on this, they know it's going to be a negative return on investment. Heck, if they do get sold there is high likelihood it's going to get someone killed, and that's really bad for business. Just the normal rear Thrust version is probably going to kill people. But they do it anyway for the reasons this poster on the EEVblog forum said. No wonder engineers fall over themselves to work for an Elon company.

So Tesla does a demo of a car that climbs vertical, stops at the top of a loop, FLIES DOWN, then jumps some trucks doing a kick flip, and casually breaks the 1 second zero to sixty acceleration barrier... Okay, that's some cool shit. Yes, we argue over the commercial practicality, but you've got to admit from just the sci-fi tech demo sense, that's wild. So I scroll through the interwebs and the conservatives I know are gleeful and making jokes about flying cars, and the smart people are thinking through possible applications, limitations, and ways this wild shit could or could not get used in real life. The really smart people are arguing about engineering, but regardless everybody is like "damn, that's cool." Meanwhile all the comments from terminally online liberals are crying about Elon's politics. All they can do is focus on one dude disagreeing with them. They can't get past it. All they can do is minimize. They have no imagination. No excitement. It's just so sad. They're so SMALL. So the conversations are like- "Wow they just did some Matchbox stuff with an actual car." "That's nothing. You're stupid. Elon supports Germany's AfD party. I am offended. You should have more critical thinking like me." And sadly that's a paraphrase not an exaggeration. I just saw that one on Ron F's page. :D
