A festival in VA canceled a menorah lighting — which had nothing to do with Israel —because it claimed celebrating Chanukah would imply support for the “killing/bombing” of Gaza.

Five years ago today, a white supremacist opened fire on Jewish worshippers at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, killing 11 people. Our hearts are heavy as we remember the victims, their loved ones, and the Jewish community in Pittsburgh.
May their memories be a blessing.
The rabbi who sponsored my conversion posted a shitty, super nationalistic sentiment on Facebook today that was also transphobic.
The worst part is that the post got 60+ reactions and no negative comments. Even from people in my own community.
I want to respond, but I wonder if there’s any point.
For the record, this is the same rabbi who misgendered my partner and I on our conversion certificate. He’s the reason why once our current rabbi finished her schooling, we chose to have a confirmation ceremony.
