I program because it's a convenient way to solve problems.
When I worked management away from a computer, I built paper systems to help make organizing data a breeze compared to before, I made changes that improved employee's engagement to their duties.
At @RoushTech we've analyzed sales flows, incentive structures, team structures, communication flows.
None of this is programming, it's all about problem solving.
Just a lot of problem solving that comes from data handling works well via programming. So we do a lot of that. 😋
A lot of applications make things more complicated for a pretty UI, or for silly metrics like "zero bugs".
Users don't care if the app is worse to use, and yes "more clicks" is a very real problem. We recently redesigned one of our manufacturing apps to reduce the number of scans needed for a complex process.
More steps means more room for error and re-training. It's valid feedback. Fix it. Don't argue that your design is "superior" the doctors are the experts here.
It's important to know how to design an application outside of just from purely an isolated engineering perspective. Users matter! Users are the only reason we're writing this software at all!
