The Man Behind Scooby-Doo, Ken Spears, Sadly Passed Away Six Years Ago at 82 🐾🕊️
Ken Spears helped create one of animation’s most enduring worlds. Alongside Joe Ruby, he developed Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and its unforgettable Mystery Inc. gang — Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma — whose mystery-solving adventures became a pop-culture phenomenon spanning generations.
His influence reached far beyond one franchise. Spears and Ruby went on to create Dynomutt, Dog Wonder, Jabberjaw, and other Saturday-morning favorites before founding Ruby-Spears Productions, the studio behind shows including Fangface, Thundarr the Barbarian, Mister T, Superman, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Spears passed away in 2020 at 82. Six years later, every new mystery, masked villain, and generation discovering the Mystery Machine carries a piece of the animation legacy he helped begin.
