Progress takes a team. Improvement takes commitment. The work continues 💪🏻 At the start of this season, we set out to build a strong culture, establish clear standards and develop a football identity at Herne Bay Women. After nine league games, we're top of the London & South East Regional Women's Football League Division One North. Comparing our first nine games with the same stage last season, the progress is clear: 📈 Points: 8 → 20 ⚽ Goals scored: 10 → 25 🛡️ Goals conceded: 14 → 9 📊 Points per game: 0.89 → 2.22 We've moved from fifth to first, improving both our attacking output and defensive record. What makes me most proud, though, is the players and coaches behind these results. We have a largely young squad, and it's been great to see the players embrace the demands we've placed on them. Their work ethic, willingness to learn and commitment to one another have been central to our progress. Building an environment where players encourage each other, take responsibility and put the team first has been a priority. I'm equally proud of our coaching staff. The planning, detail, honest discussions and shared commitment to player development are a huge part of what we're building. Improvement comes from people working together towards a common goal. On the pitch, we're developing an identity built around freedom within structure. Our positional-play principles focus on vertical and diagonal progression, a think-forward, play-forward mentality, intelligent movement and creating positional or numerical advantages. Out of possession, we aim to be aggressive through intense man-oriented pressing and counter-pressing, regaining possession quickly and disrupting opposition transitions. A key part of my coaching philosophy is adaptability. Game situations, player availability, opposition strengths and conditions all influence our approach. We want players to understand our principles while having the confidence to make decisions and find solutions. Our constraints-led training approach replicates the physical, technical, tactical and psychological demands of the game. By exposing players to different scenarios, we aim to improve their decision-making and ability to solve problems independently. Nine games don't define a season, but seeing our work translate into performances, results and individual development is hugely rewarding. I'm incredibly proud of the players and staff, and grateful for their continued commitment. It's important to recognise our progress, but this isn't a time for satisfaction. It's time to work even harder, raise our standards and push ourselves to achieve what this group is capable of.

How long will it take for broadcasters to predict teams in and out of possession shapes and show that as a graphic? Find it genuinely pointless to say a team is 4-4-2 but attacks in a 3-2-5 and defends in a 4-1-2-1-2 for example 🤷‍♂️
