INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) makes paranoia contagious. The horror isn’t knowing that people are being replaced. It’s realizing that anyone you trust could be next, and there may be no way to prove it.

That rubber ball bouncing down the stairs in THE CHANGELING (1980) is one of the simplest, most chilling moments in horror.

At first, I thought this was just another scene of Vincent being a smooth-talking wiseguy. But look closely at Butch’s reaction. The brief camera pan reveals how much Vincent’s seemingly harmless insult actually hurts him. It’s a subtle detail that tells us everything about Butch’s pride as a boxer and his inability to let go of even the smallest insult. And Vincent would eventually pay the price for bruising his ego. Simply brilliant directing.

THE TERMINATOR turns 42 today. James Cameron conceived the film after a fever dream in Rome of a chrome skeleton emerging from flames. Working with a budget of just $6.4 million, he turned that nightmare into one of sci-fi’s most influential franchises.

Kubrick would not approve of this editing. In the real scene it's very creepy. It almost drags on, why? Because Hal is THINKING.

Love how that hat throw at the start not only startles us cause we expect him to show first, but it also draws our attention towards the window which allows him to enter and our eyes to swoop to him making his entrance even more forceful than if we just followed his body into the shot.

Sci-fi corridors through the decades: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968), SOLARIS (1972), STAR WARS (1977) and ALIEN (1979). Four iconic visions of the future, each with its own unforgettable atmosphere.

Quentin Tarantino spending three minutes telling a ridiculous joke in Desperado (1995), then laughing harder than anyone else, might be the most Tarantino thing ever.

When thinking about John Carpenter movies, "Prince of Darkness" (1987) may not be in the top 5 movies of most people, but it is one of his unique movies. There is a lot to like about the picture. The atmosphere gives a complete feel of a giallo picture rather than reminding of a John Carpenter movie. There are homages to many great films of the genre. I felt that there was scope for the movie to be a lot better, but other than the early scientific mumbo jumbo stories to set up the movie, there isn't much in the movie to dislike.

Steve McQueen didn’t know he was dying while making The Hunter. A week after wrapping, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer linked to asbestos exposure. The film hit screens in August 1980. Three months later, McQueen was gone. He was 50.
