Prediction... Burnham will call an early general election this week.
He's a populist, and he knows the political opportunity in front of him.
Reform are in retreat, the Tories haven't yet recovered, and the Greens are caught up in false accusations of antisemitism from Burnham and the Board of Deputies.
But there's something much bigger at play here.
Burnham is selling the promise of change while his government continues to defend so much of the political and economic establishment that desperately needs changing.
Just look at the last week. Jackdaw approved, the antisemitism in schools report endorsed, and now a few encouraging words about Europe have people falling over themselves to praise him.
It's political theatre, and it's working.
But the longer he governs, the harder it becomes to maintain the impression that change is already here all we've heard so far is talk.
So why not cash in on the honeymoon, and play the oldest trick in politics.
Sell the promise of change, secure the power to deliver it, then spend the next five years explaining why meaningful change isn't possible.

Netanyahu has posted an image of a nuclear mushroom cloud over New York City.
If you’re an American & you still support Israel - stop.
Palestinians have a legal right under the Geneva Convention to resist illegal occupation. But imperial Israel and the US gov refuse to recognize the Geneva Convention as applying to the Palestinians. This sets them up to have no rights while Israel has no limits. Raw evil.
⚡️ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to demolish an entire Hebron neighborhood, expel its residents and build "more and more settlements" after two Israeli soldiers were killed in a shooting near the illegally occupied West Bank city on Friday.
Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a junction outside Hebron, killing a staff sergeant and a sergeant, before Israeli forces killed them. Palestinian media identified them as Hamouda Jaaba and Firas Jaaba, both 27, from Hebron. Netanyahu blamed Hamas but offered no evidence beyond ammunition the army said it found in their car.
"Our first step will be to demolish this site and completely transform it," Netanyahu said, adding Israel is "building and arranging over 100 new settlements." Israeli forces sealed off Hebron, the largest city in the West Bank, and arrested dozens as Netanyahu ordered preparations for a full closure of the entire West Bank – applying to Palestinians only, with Israeli roads staying open to settlers.
The news comes just five days before Israel's elections, with Netanyahu trailing in the polls.

I'm not going to name the school, but the @BBC's coverage of the antisemitism in schools report featured interviews with children from a Jewish school.
Here's the rub, though.
The school's own published curriculum explicitly teaches Zionism, celebrates the establishment of Israel and describes preparing pupils to become "positive advocates for Israel" at university.
It even references bringing in organisations such as StandWithUs to prepare pupils for that advocacy.
Now, let me be absolutely clear. There is nothing wrong with teaching Jewish history, culture or identity. And antisemitism must be challenged wherever it exists.
But when children are actively encouraged to advocate for a particular state, rather than critically examine its history, policies and actions, surely we have to question whether this is education or ideological conditioning?
And here's the staggering hypocrisy.
We're being told that schools must exercise political impartiality when discussing Palestine, while a school can openly describe preparing children to advocate for Israel.
Political impartiality cannot be a principle applied selectively, depending on which side of a conflict children are encouraged to support.
And the BBC has a responsibility to scrutinise that distinction, not simply present children's views without examining the educational environment in which those views have developed.
Children deserve an education that teaches them how to think, not what to think.

Trying to understand why a prominent Tory party member organising contract killings isn’t being given wall to wall coverage. The BBC hasn’t even mentioned it on their site.
🚨🇬🇧 Turning Point UK's CEO was filmed offering an undercover reporter a menu of beatings, stabbings and killings through a Glasgow contact who says he arms the UVF
Al Jazeera’s undercover operation started in 2021 when a reporter joined the British offshoot of the American student group.
Its CEO Jack Ross, a Conservative candidate in 2023, introduced the reporter to Allan Nesbitt, a convicted criminal and self-described UVF member, agreed on camera to pay him to stage a fake pro-Zimbabwe rally, and priced out what Nesbitt’s friends could do to a person, from cutting faces to MURDER.
The UVF is the Ulster Volunteer Force, a Protestant loyalist paramilitary from Northern Ireland’s Troubles that killed over 500 people between 1966 and 1999, including 33 in one day in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, and is still banned as a terror group.
Since the peace deal it has run mostly as a drug gang that kept the name and the guns.
Nesbitt reportedly met the reporter in a London hotel, offered to have a fictional business rival “finished,” claimed he’d personally stabbed a man to death, showed a shotgun and pistol on a video call and said the fee would buy weapons smuggled from Scotland into Northern Ireland.
Ross says it was a joke. The joke came with a price list, a weapons demo and a smuggling route, and the police now have a name and a video... and wasn't particularly funny.
Somebody in Turning Point UK’s donor base should be asking when the fundraising dinners turned into this.

No pun intended, @AndyBurnham, but this has to be the epitome of gaslighting.
"This government remains committed to the green transition."
What a load of absolute fucking bullshit.
You rightly identify the Iran war as the latest global crisis driving energy price shocks, yet Trump has already posted to praise the Jackdaw decision. The very man whose illegal war is helping fuel this crisis is now celebrating your government's response to it.
Meanwhile, your government are delving deeper and deeper into fascism.
Political opponents, including @ZackPolanski, branded antisemitic for challenging Zionism, while we await the full report on proposals that risk turning our children's education into another political weapon to silence criticism of Israel and shield those, including yourself from charges of complicity in genocide.
This is the kind of manipulation of dissent, education and public debate that history should have taught us to recognise and resist.
The TikToks might fool some people, but more and more are seeing straight through the bullshit.
You talk about protecting our future while expanding fossil fuel extraction. You talk about defending democracy while deploying horrific tactics to demonise political opposition. You talk about tackling hatred while legitimate criticism of war crimes is being silenced.
And through it all, the wealthy and powerful remain protected, war criminals continue to act with impunity, and our children's future is sacrificed.
Just how much further are you prepared to go to defend this broken system?

Of course Burnham doesn’t want an inquiry. His number 2 belongs in the Hague. We will not stop exposing the Labour génocidaires
NEW: Andy Burnham has officially rejected Jeremy Corbyn's call for a public inquiry into "British complicity" in Gaza.
The former Labour leader wrote to the PM in July asking him to back his Private Member's Bill for a Chilcot-style inquiry, which would look at any UK military, economic or political cooperation with Israel since October 2023.
This would include the power to question ministers on the supply or use of weapons, surveillance aircraft and Royal Air Force bases.
The idea was rejected by Starmer. The govt have confirmed in response to a written question today that their position remains unchanged under Burnham, saying an inquiry isn't necessary due to the "extensive mechanisms already available for parliamentary accountability and oversight".
Corbyn said:“Andy Burnham rightly said that the last Labour government “got it wrong” over Gaza. But his words will mean very little if he doesn’t break with the last government’s shameful record of complicity, secrecy and evasion.
"Many of us will remember in the aftermath of Iraq, the government of the day spent many years resisting attempts to uncover the truth. In the end, they could not prevent the inevitable. Just like Iraq, we will remember those who obstructed the path to justice."
