Rusty Squid has come to an end.
Roseanne Wakely has inherited the studio and continues to explore the intersection between art, engineering and design. contact her at [email protected]
We don't know what happened to David.
Its been a remarkable 10 years.
The Squids.
100 years ago Czech playwright Karel Čapek published Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti giving us the word #robot. While #mythology of breathing life into machines is as old as Gods, Capek challenged us to reflect on the intimate relationship between #technology, #capitalism, #agency
This is where #Robotics starts to get really interesting. Customizable gestures will bring out hidden biases and nuanced assumptions from different cultures around the world. We cannot wait to see what the #artists of the #future will do with this #technology.
Wow! The #Animatronics workshop is now sold out and the Neutral #Puppet workshop is filling up fast
But don’t worry we'll be running the workshops again in a few weeks!

For those interested in #Robotics and #animatronics We can't stress enough how important it is to understand the fundamentals of #puppetry and #movement.
We still have a few places left on our Neutral Puppet workshop. don't forget we have student discounts available.
THIS WEEKEND @ Puppet Place
The Neutral #Puppet #Workshop

Hero
The greek philosopher is not only famous for building the first steam engine; he also built a mechanical play powered by a binary-like system of ropes and knots.
@rustysquid is following in the footsteps of pioneers working to integrate #philosophy #engineering and the #arts
Our little #Robot #art and #design studio cant be more excited about this new book coming out. Its so easy to assume that our current cultures feelings towards "intelligent machines " is normal. Oh how wrong we are. @DrDihal, @stephenjcave

Just arrived in #Bristol from #İstanbul. It’s been an amazing first week supporting @davidmcgoran building @RustySquidLtd‘s next phase of the business. I’m looking forward to meeting the communities of @BristolRobotLab, @PMStudioUK, @PuppetPlace, @_SpikeIsland and @EngineShed_BB.
"perhaps intelligence is not computational" challenge accepted @rodneyabrooks Our little robotic art and design studio has been experimenting with fresh metaphors. Rather than intelligent perhaps we should think of ourselves as a relational fields.

@davidmcgoran went to an academic conference on how future robots can build trust: “I said to them, surely you’ve looked at Jim Henson’s notation on eye movement or notations on stop-motion animation? They hadn’t even considered to look at these masters.”

The secret to the #future of #Robotics lies in the past
The Löwenmensch figurine from #Germany is the oldest known #statue. It dates 40,000 years ago. This act of carving would have been as much of an advanced technology as robotics is for us today. Visit goo.gl/t8Spvu
