Was a joy to be involved in this event over the weekend, to meet and run with so many lovely people, all passionate about rivers, and wildlife in Stoke, at the head of the River Trent and talk about our plans for the #TrentValleyWay
What a fantastic weekend in Stoke on Trent! Carrying the @Climate_Relay baton alongside locals, we've been talking about the state of our rivers, why community can help you feel more empowered & our plans to help people connect to their local river - in Stoke and beyond. 🏃‍♂️👇

Was a joy to spend the day with a team of local volunteers and TRT staff creating NFM features upstream of Loughborough, and the sun shone ☀️
A shout-out to our fantastic group of volunteers kicking off our #naturalfloodmanagement work just outside of Loughborough! Boosting the sponginess🧽of the woodland, the work slows and stores water before it reaches the city.

Fencing is one of our main tools for Restoring Rivers @WelshDeeTrust. But how exactly does fencing a river improve its health? and benefit its wildlife? 🐟🪲🦦 A little thread 🧵

On #WorldEnvironmentDay2023 we need people to know that physical modification remains the biggest cause of failure of river ecosystems. therrc.co.uk/river-restorati… Rivers should not be straightened & dredged canals, but complex threads of life supporting a resilient environment.

Interesting video from the US about infiltration rates and the relationship with production, and the difference good land management can make #SoilHealth
For those concerned about to much rain currently, what if that was just music to your ears? Infiltration rates: AMP grazing 1" = 10.1 secs Set stocking 1" = 420 secs (7 mins) Which one produces the most forage and carries stock best in winter?🤔 m.youtube.com/watch?t=124&v=…

As such significant landowners, the crown estate really needs to lead by example on how to incorporate nature based solution to help mitigate for climate change, balanced with growing food to eat

Good chance to talk about how we work with farmers, they are the custodians of our landscape, we all have a part to play in restoring our rivers
We've recently spoken to @wickedleeksmag about the importance of working collaboratively with 🧑‍🌾 to boost river health. This is something that we've been doing for many years in the @MeaseRiver as part of the @CaBAtweets approach. 👇 wickedleeks.riverford.co.uk/…

Think fish & chips is a good combo? Fish and trees is where it's at. Over the last few weeks, we've been planting over 2,000 trees around the Dove to help reduce pollution and climate pressure on fish, including salmon. @TheTrentValley @EnvAgencyMids bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-st…

Finally proper acknowledgement that we have not invested in our water infrastructure adequately for decades, with rather pro water industry regulation from Ofwat, further hindered by massive cuts to the EA monitoring budgets theguardian.com/environment/…

Nice way to illustrate why wetlands are important to reduce flood risk upstream of urban areas

This is very welcome news, finally implementing legislation introduced in 2010, giving proper regulation of the decision making process to reduce flood risk from development through the use of #goodsuds #biodiversity #amenity
🏡 Sustainable drainage systems will be built into new developments. 💧 Using features such as grassed areas to reduce the risk of surface water flooding, and helping improve our sewer infrastructure. 📰 Read more: gov.uk/government/news/new-a…
