But the recent destruction we see across major cities today does seem to revolve around this 1 specific flag. In my city, in US cities, in Europe. Why is that?

That must be it. It’s like I see $10m - $100m of tax payers money go into a restoration of a heritage site, or city infrastructure, then it’s burnt down or destroyed by protesters the next week.
