A potential client told me that the other tax practitioners asked more questions before telling him that his business didn't qualify under IRC 1202, though they all reached that conclusion. Sorry that I answered your question faster. I'll be dumber and less informed next time.

Hot take. Some tax planning and advisory is better than nothing. Ballpark it. Even telling clients what their safe harbor is, is awesome. So they have it in the back of their mind. Helps to not have surprises. #taxtwitter #tax #fractionalcfo

The “free tax advice” loophole:
Don’t ask tax pros for help.
Just post the wrong tax take.
They’ll appear out of nowhere to correct you for free.

#AITruth : Small firms may have the advantage.
One person figures it out. Teaches the other four.
Done.
Big firm? Committee. IT approval. Partner buy-in. Six months later...
Innovation isn't about size. It's about curiosity.
Are you feeling this advantage yet?

Just the most jackass MFS that I've had to do.
Couple lives in TX. They have about $600k in AGI, so they're capped at $10k in SALT MFJ. Their SALT is about $20k.
By filing separately, they each get the full $10k in SALT.
Man, OBBBA was written like crap. #TaxTwitter

Going to send client a copy of their tax return as follows, odd pages as separate upside down JPGs as text messages. Even pages as individual HEIC to email. Bill will come as 40 separate $15 invoices of which only half can paid by ACH, 3 by CC, the rest cash or check only.

CPA friends — this one almost cost a founder $2.4M in taxes.
SaaS founder.
C-Corp.
4+ years holding QSBS.
$10M gain lined up for exit in 2 years.
He was locked into the old $10M Section 1202 cap (pre-OBBBA stock — no $15M upgrade for him).
Then he nearly nuked the entire exclusion.
He was about to sign a massive server farm lease and pivot hard into “data hosting.”
One problem:
That move would’ve made his principal assets passive in the eyes of the IRS — killing the active trade or business requirement and disqualifying his QSBS entirely.
💥 $10M gain → fully taxable.
Roughly $2.4M federal tax hit.
Because we were in a continuous advisory relationship, we caught it early.
We restructured the expansion, bullet-proofed the active business documentation, and kept his QSBS alive.
Result:
Client exited.
$10M gain.
$0 federal tax.
Even without the new OBBBA goodies, we still saved him millions.
Tax pros: This is why referrals to the right specialist matter.
You bring the client relationship.
We catch the landmines before they explode the QSBS.
Who else has seen a client almost accidentally disqualify their QSBS with an innocent-sounding pivot?
Drop your war stories below 📷Or DM if you have a founder client eyeing an exit — let’s keep their millions tax-free together.

For years accountants showed up to client meetings and explained what went wrong. That's not advisory. That's a post-mortem.

Sadly, he doesn't even have this advantage, as anyone who's had small children knows. When someone is sufficiently unsophisticated, it's possible to know what they're doing even when they don't know themselves.

March 27th and every accountant on X is in shambles. I know I’m definitely not the only one trying to juggle like 100+ relationships. Its exhausting 🤣 i love my clients but imagine like 250 of your friends all wanna hang out the same 3 months of the year.
