GENEVA, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Fuel shortages in Yemen's besieged city of Taiz have forced one hospital to cut the number of incubators it can operate from 40 to 10, putting newborn babies at risk as weeks of fighting choke off vital supplies and deepen a humanitarian crisis affecting hundreds of thousands of people. "There's no oxygen, there's no fuel to run the incubators, to keep the babies warm," said Nada Ahmed, a nurse in the neonatal unit of the Yemeni-Swedish Hospital for Maternity and Childhood. Nawal Najeeb, a supervisor in the neonatal unit, warned the facility could be forced to halt operations if fuel supplies do not arrive. "It will be a catastrophe for the babies, a catastrophe of deaths and disabilities." Taiz has been largely isolated since October 3, with fightingpreventing humanitarian supplies from entering and civilians from leaving, following an escalation in clashes between the Saudi-backed government and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

Lots of questions as to what will be said here. If the Mecca Pact is to be viable long-term, it will need to signal the potential for mutual counter-retaliation (Saudi already attacked Iran in the spring). At the same time, that might only deepen Iran's sense of insecurity.
Senior officials from Iran, Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have begun a four-way meeting in Tehran, hosted by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei. Participants include Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman and Turkish Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin.

I found time this weekend to do a substack on Israel's election tomorrow and how the election tomorrow is part of Israel's wider debate over which strategy to embrace to secure its geographic core. Strip away the politics and embrace the geopolitics here. ryanbohl.substack.com/p/the-…

According to CNN: • Israel had been preparing to strike Iran in recent days, but the Americans asked Israel to wait and signaled the possibility of a joint operation later. • One of the reasons: A conversation between Zamir and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during which it was argued that such an attack would negatively affect the elections. • The U.S. military is ready to launch an attack within 96 hours of receiving an order from Trump.

Here is a look at where the growing season and Frost/Freeze program is active vs. inactive across our area. The red shaded areas have experienced a widespread freeze. Much of the green shaded area has experienced frost, but not a freeze, and thus the growing season continues.

U.S. embassy begins ordered departure of non-emergency personnel in Saudi Arabia and families due to safety risks
Security Alert: U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia (October 25, 2026) Effective October 23, 2026, the Department of State ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and U.S. government employee family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks. Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area. U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization from Chief of Mission to use any airport in Saudi Arabia following recent missile and UAV attacks on airports in the Kingdom. King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh announced a partial reopening as of October 25 for domestic flights and some international flights operated by national carriers. A limited number of flights normally based at RUH are operating out of Qassim-based Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ). Operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED) are operational with some delays and cancellations. Operations at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (DMM) are operational with some delays and cancellations. U.S. citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions.  Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia.  We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and with the airport. Iran is losing land trade routes to American pressure, as both Iraq and Pakistan shut key border crossings: "The Pakistani closures have stranded more than 4,500 metric tons of bottled gas—one of Tehran's last energy exports—on the Iranian side of the border." It has other borders, but they were already struggling to deal with higher volume: last month there were 17,000 trucks waiting to cross, with delays stretching up to three weeks wsj.com/world/middle-east/ir…
