Ukrainian children are being displayed online like products. This must stop!
The Russian occupation administration has launched a chilling online catalog of Ukrainian orphans, displayed openly on the web. These children are presented like products in an e-commerce store, sortable by age, gender, eye and hair color, health status, and even personality traits. Their faces are shown in clear, uncovered photos, with no evidence that consent was obtained from legal guardians to share this sensitive information.
This isn’t a new tactic. Since 2014, Ukrainian children have appeared in Russian adoption databases. However, since 2022, the practice has become widespread and systematic. Initially, Russian authorities tried to cover their tracks—shutting down registries and erasing references. Now, the pretense is gone. The official website of the so-called "ministry" of the Luhansk occupation administration brazenly displays this data for all to see.
These children are not “war orphans.” They had names, families, and Ukrainian citizenship. Many lost their parents to shelling. Others were forcibly taken and re-registered with new documents. Now, they’re being matched with Russian families, treated like animals in a pet adoption database.
Let’s be clear:
This is not adoption. This is not care. This is digital child trafficking, masked as bureaucracy.
President putin shows no willingness to return these children—but he’s eager to exploit them for "trading". He has streamlined the adoption process so drastically that a Ukrainian child can now be effectively “ordered” online. With a single click, a child is stripped of their identity, issued a russian passport, and subjected to ideological control.
Worse still, this platform exposes children to grave dangers, including:
- Sexual and labor exploitation
- Human trafficking
- Illegal adoption
- Forced changes to their name, citizenship, language, and cultural identity
- Lifelong psychological trauma
- Potential trafficking for organ harvesting
We have archived the website and secured the full database. We are working tirelessly to identify every child listed, and we won’t stop until they are brought home.
At @SaveukraineUs , we’ve rescued over 750 children. We’ve seen their faces, witnessed their fear, and heard their heartbreaking words: “I thought no one would come for me.”
But this crisis is bigger than any single organization. It’s a challenge to the entire world.
We urgently call on:
❗️ Governments to pressure russia to return these children and bring them home.
❗️ International organizations to recognize these acts as crimes against humanity.
❗️ Media to expose the grim reality of “adoption” under occupation.
❗️ Individuals to speak out and refuse to look away.
No child should be reduced to a clickable profile.
No child should be stolen, renamed, or raised to forget their identity.
Join us in bringing them home. Help us safeguard their future.

I use the wonderful @HLHArchives centre here in Inverness for book research, and came across some interesting entries in the school records for Embo (near Dornoch). 🧵

The top stories for exam results this year were falling pass rates and record-high attainment gaps at N5, Higher & Advanced Higher.
But there are lots of other exam stats, so today I'm diving in for @heraldscotland

Am I raging? Maybe I'm raging because community-owned estates have to fight tooth and nail to fund jobs in fragile rural economies, but if you have the wealth of the City behind you, you can pay people £150,000 to do cool stuff like drystone walling, pointing, pathbuilding. (7/8)

This is so alarming. If officers at @cne_siar can’t even admit the reality of the situation then we have a big problem. Now a minority language in the WI - what exactly is CNES doing to help outside Education?

Staff & volunteers from across #CairngormsConnect explored the theme of Gaelic in the landscape with discussions on how contextualised appreciation for Gaelic culture and language can support landscape restoration. Presentation & support by researcher @RyantheSlav and @HuttonSEGS

ALT A collage of photos. On the left there is a person wearing a blue shirt and black trousers presenting next to a large projector screen in a wooden clad room. On the right there are two photos one on top of the other showing people sitting in a circle with only their legs and feet visible and some notes written on post-its on their lap, and standing in a circle outside with a hand holding a metal nail.
Had a great time giving a presentation and participating in discussions with people working within ecological restoration as part of Cairngorms Connect's Gaelic Knowledge Exchange Visit at the Badaguish Outdoor Centre! @CairngormsCo @HuttonSEGS @BroonCooFilms @AJuarezBourke

Russia’s occupying forces in Bakhmut just published on one of their Telegram channels new video footage and photos of the eastern Ukrainian city almost a year after it was destroyed and captured. The photos are stomach-churning and I admit they fill me with rage. I’ll post them below beside my own photos from when I lived in Bakhmut in 2010-2012, when it was a vibrant, peaceful city that 80,000 called home.
These images show the central square fountain and city hall — or where city hall stood before it was blown up. The first two were taken under Russian occupation. The other two are mine from 14 years ago.

If there is no flexibility in this new condition it will have a massive impact on the affordability and resilience of any new-build croft house. Once again, a centralised @scotgov that does not consider the sustainability of rural and island communities.

From 1 April 2024 (last Monday), fossil and bio fuel heating systems will not be permitted in newbuild construction. As well as oil and gas heating, log boilers will be banned, as will solid fuel and woodburning stoves (Building Standard 6.11).
