So, @ParkBoard has received 519 emails opposed to @angelahaer’s motion to remove the protected bike lane in #StanleyPark. 49 in favour. So, if these Commissioners vote in favour of this motion they’re doing so against overwhelming public sentiment. #LoveTheLane
And ABC, including @angelahaer, went into the election supporting a protected bike lane on Stanley Park Drive. IOW, on this particular issue, people voted to keep the lane. That aligns with another survey showing 63% of Vancouverites supporting same. #StanleyPark #LoveTheLane

When rail workers want to strike: “but it’ll hurt the economy!” When nurses want to strike: “what about the patients?!” When teachers want to strike: “what about the kids?!” This is union-busting propaganda. Strikes are hard on workers and are an essential part of bargaining.

This is a surprise to precisely NO ONE considering how many times an array of people raised this exact issue Side note: This is what we call “taking out the trash” in journalism, dumping bad news on a Friday afternoon and hoping the smell is gone by Monday #bcpoli
The independent review of B.C.'s COVID response that was commissioned by the government has just been released: www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/pu… It finds the most transparent jurisdiction in North America was, in fact, not transparent and eroded people's trust.

The rest of Canada doesn’t have temps that dance around the freezing line during snowstorms so thanks for your Vancouver driving takes but your experience living in constant sub sub zero doesn’t apply here. – at Vancouver, British Columbia

Update: full decampment on south side of Hastings between main & Columbia - nobody offered housing, nowhere to go, and it’s snowing. To the folks saying people should go to "shelters" - can you please send us a list of available shelter beds? Otherwise fuck off.

that K9 handler is not at all in control of their dog, how responsible
UPDATE: VANDU received new footage of @VancouverPD's violent arrest on Gore St thru our anonymous inbox, [email protected]. We're publishing this by request of the man's loved ones. This video does not align with VPD's claim that once on the ground the man resisted arrest. 📹 1/2

2. There are only 4 @Vote4ABC trustees on the board of 9 trustees. They would need @RichardsonYVR (who was expelled from the party for good reasons) to vote with them. But as a longtime @VancouverPD employee, he’s in a conflict of interest and must recuse himself from voting. /3

If Twitter dies, where will I get accurate information about my own Council’s budget? #VanPoli – at Vancouver, British Columbia
The BCGov says it has NOT given Vancouver mayor Ken Sim $3 million towards his 100 police/nurse plan. And the money will NOT take up the entire $3m mental health /police Car team budget announced yesterday. Despite Sim thinking so. So. Figure that one out.

Cops don't approach these situations ready to de-escalate. They show up, remove the "problem" and move on. No hearing both sides because the other person is marginalized & is painted as an issue. #DefundThePolice is the solution @CityofVancouver not more cops. @defund604

i’m a vancouverite and i don’t know that
We heard from 171,494 voters a month ago who overwhelmingly supported candidates calling for more police and mental health workers on our streets. Defund doesn’t work, and Vancouverites know that.

Twitter has been instrumental in A LOT of liberation movements worldwide. It makes sense that it might be in the world’s richest man’s financial interest to destroy it. Just saying.

feel like “urgently hiring” is more than a little misleading…pledging $6m (in a 3:1 ratio to cops over nurses) to agencies in order to see if they will come up with a satisfactory plan that as yet doesn’t have a long term funding source doesn’t necessarily put feet on the street
25 min into @CityofVancouver Council meeting. 40+ items approved mostly unanimously. Some great work to keep bars open for FIFA, support Chinatown, stop the road tax, fighting anti-Semitism & urgently hiring more police & mental health workers. That's some efficient action.

RCMP killed a woman in North Vancouver last night. Or as the reputation management release by RCMP public relations puts it "...a confrontation ensued which led to an officer to discharge [sic] their service issued firearm." See 🧵 for language analysis globalnews.ca/news/9274711/i…
