🚨 Wilson Isidor tells me he’s, ‘never experienced love like the love he gets from Sunderland fans’ - and what gift did he receive from an SAFC supporter that he and his wife love?!
🗣️”My wife sent me a TikTok video - a girl saying I’m her favourite player and she’d given me something before a game… It was a scrapbook - full of love for me and a message for me inside - and I brought it home to show my wife. She was so happy! We loved it!”
🗣️ “Sunderland and me are like a love story. I’ve never experienced this love in my life. Sunderland is life. They’re the best fans in the UK. That’s why I love them so much.”

You’ll have read plenty this week about Sunderland’s League One plight, and it’s a fair way to highlight just how remarkable this turnaround has been. To think there may be players involved tonight who represented us in the third tier of English football is extraordinary.
But in our view, that period was always the anomaly. Before the double relegation in 2018, Sunderland hadn’t dropped below 23rd in the pyramid for 23 years. And throughout that horrendous time, we were often told things that suggested the club was almost cursed, as though an inexplicable force was stopping Sunderland from becoming what we all knew they could be.
What’s worse, is that even when we saw some genuinely good top-tier teams get close, we’d often be told not to get too expectant, too demanding.
So what excites me above all else is that this all feels like it could actually be the beginning of something. While it does feel surreal that we were languishing in the third tier five minutes ago, it's nice to embrace the possibility that this is what the club both can and should be. The ambition feels real and tonight doesn’t feel like our big day out, it feels like we’ve finally arrived.
And the best part? Our manager and captain are saying exactly that. They aren’t telling us to temper expectations, despite outsiders being desperate for us to fail this year. Granit Xhaka and Regis Le Bris are telling us this is only the start. After years of hearing otherwise, I’ve decided I’m gonna listen.
