The MoJ statistics show that 24% of recalls involved reoffending. The rest were people who breached their licence conditions for reasons such as failing to stay off alcohol or drugs, missing curfews and failing to attend appointments with Probation Officers.

The long-term high-security estate is becoming more dangerous, mainly because a large proportion of prisoners have indefinite sentences or extremely long tariffs, & there are no resources to meet their needs. Combined with inexperienced staff, creates a recipe for disaster.

No spaces are left in prisons again, so how many are stuck in segregation because of this? The UN considers segregation lasting over 15 days a form of torture, calling it "cruel & "inhuman." Since 2011, the Special Rapporteur on Torture has called for a global ban on segregation.

Great to see the fantastic ⁦⁦@UNGRIPP⁩ receive the ⁦⁦@LongfordTrust⁩ prize 2024. Recognition of their tireless campaigning that has raised awareness of the injustice of the IPP sentence and the human stories of those impacted.

The most damaging thing to prisoners and society is a psychologist. It’s not possible to predict the future and govt stats prove this as we have the worst reoffending rates anywhere in the developed world. If govt really wanted to reduce recidivism they would adopt Scandi model

Just avoid psychology, the worst thing ever to happen to prison is psychologists and there theories. They have used speculation and guesswork based around pseudo science to rehabilitate but it is time to admit it doesn’t work. Get back vocational courses and real world skills

I recognise that some IPP prisoners have shorter tariffs, but whether high or low, if someone has exceeded their tariff, they deserve the same fight. The IPP system is unjust and has been misused!

Why are so many prisoners receiving “end-of-life care” in jails? What happened to compassionate release? The process for applying for end-of-life release takes so long for the Ministry of Justice to decide that most applicants pass away before a decision is made.

People can be so cynical, blindly believing everything written in the media. It’s crucial to question the narrative, especially when it comes to stories of injustice. #ChallengeTheSystem
