We've corrected a number of articles to remove references to the Iranian Parliament voting for death sentences. A majority of the parliament supported a letter to the judiciary calling for harsh punishments of protesters, which could include the death penalty.

So crushed to hear of Javier Marias's death. I would have read new books from him for years to come. If you haven't read A Heart So White or Thus Bad Begins, I highly, highly recommend. What a shame that he'll no longer be a perennial Nobel frontrunner. theguardian.com/world/2022/s…

"You ever have somebody come to you and you get the vibe they want something from you, but they’re also telling you that you’re a piece of shit?" Truly good interview with Wheatus frontman on the ups and downs of "Teenage Dirtbag" observer.com/2022/08/the-man…

Thinking about my favorite passage from Salman Rushdie’s ‘Midnight’s Children,’ the Indira Gandhi green and black fever dream. Arguably the greatest book of the 20th century.

Home renovation TV shows are the stuff that derams are made of. But not for the homeowners who file lawsuilts instead of jumping for joy. nyti.ms/3NDtuQn
Always a bummer for artists to lose big bucks…but The Irishman really is the poster child for carte blanche. There could have been an amazing 1.5 hour movie somewhere in there!
Netflix will stop green-lighting “expensive vanity projects” such as ‘The Irishman’. “This tendency to do anything to attract talent and giving them carte blanche is going away,” says one source. (Source: hollywoodreporter.com/busine…)

I am more certain of this than I have ever been. Stop lockdown drills in all schools, immediately. It does nothing to protect kids. All it does is traumatize them, and in the worst case, plant the idea for some of them.

“States’ rights” until states do things Republicans don’t like. See also, pending SCOTUS ruling on New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen.
Just days before the recent mass shootings in Texas and New York, both committed by 18-year-olds, a federal appeals court struck down a California law that banned the sale of some semiautomatic weapons to people under 21. nyti.ms/3GlmDbX

Wow. I will never forget using a pay phone on Avenue A after Hurricane Sandy knocked out power and cell service to make two calls: one telling my mom I was ok, and one telling a Newsweek cover writer that his meeting with my boss was canceled because our office had flooded.
Saying goodbye to The city’s last public pay phone booth 50th and 7th. Times square @1010WINS
