What a fantastic system we have
Thanks to electronic voting, Brazil just counted 124 million votes in a few hours. Meanwhile in the UK it takes all night to count a single constituency, because we still make people queue up outside a village hall to put a piece of paper in a box which is then counted by hand.

I presume Derry city must be an english-led club picking on James. Could only imagine his reaction if his autism diagnosis was mocked
Derry City FC notes the comments regarding mental health made by James McClean and published in yesterday’s Sunday Independent. The Club wishes to make clear that these views do not reflect our core values or beliefs. The Club places the highest priority on the mental health and wellbeing of our players, staff and the wider Derry City community. derrycityfc.net/2026/10/stat… Supported by our in-house psychologist, the Club actively encourages anyone facing mental health challenges to speak openly, seek support and know they never have to face such challenges alone. The Club has accepted an invitation to meet with Men’s Action Network (MAN) to discuss these issues.

Attendance yesterday for the NLD was 13,719. 6k less than 2023. Less than half of 2024 but that was a men’s international break. Double last year but we were at Brizzy Rd. We can’t only blame the weather and the Chelsea game. Why are our attendances so shit?

'man of the people' stuff works if your political opponents include Kemi Badenoch, Robert Jenrick and Suella Braverman.
I am reliably bad at political prediction. Nevertheless, He Persisted: I think the right might be underestimating the effectiveness of Burnham's Man Of The People / subsidising bills etc approach.

Assumed Boreham Wood's would be bigger

I think it's harder to justify if your local Council seems stripped of funds and can't even do the basics right. I think the examples of Athens hosting the Olympics and (to lesser extent) Portugal hosting euro 2004 are in peoples mind too
is there a reason why the long-term value proposition of cities hosting international events has declined so much over the last 20 years? these proposals generally face much more backlash today than they once used to

It would be incredibly expensive for Manchester to build an athletics stadium then spend millions every year just to keep it going with no major tenant. You'd need dozens probably hundreds of new hotels built The public transport sorted out and basically doubled

And then most people outside the UK would rather be in London instead

I defended his right to not wear the poppy and against some of the sectarian abuse which he received, and still do. But to tarnish an entire city like this and to not offer the balance and nuance he has constantly demanded himself sums up his character. Zero accountability.
A disappointingly sour recollection of Stoke and the people of Stoke from James McClean in his new autobiography. "Stoke turned out to be as grim as Huddersfield. The people gave off that vibe that they’d been victimised and were owed something." stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/fo…

If there was ever a time for a football club to issue a rambling club statement... Do it lads @stokecity DO IT DO IT DO IT
Didn't mind him as a player here... But the idea he could think other people saw themselves as victims is one of the most extraordinary things I've ever read. His whole thing was to pretend the English game had it in for him because he was Irish

None of our other Irish players saw the world like that. The fact he went back home to Derry and they've got sick and tired of him says a lot really. A narcissist. Fascinated to see what he does posts playing career. Doesn't seem like the sort of bloke who can fit anywhere.

Vale in the relegation zone in League Two having scored *six* goals in 11 games. Nah. Won't happen. Surely not. Surely not...

they'd be better off just going to a subscription model rather than the current 'keep the license fee, more and more stop paying it, continue to decline" model they seem to have
Amazing that the destruction of the BBC mirrors that of British state capacity. Savings are invariably done without a wider strategy, with ‘salami slicing’ destroying the very reason the thing exists at all. Astonishingly poor leadership for decades.
