Being racially abused because my subjects are black was something I didn't see coming. I've usually thought of this space as a fine heterogenous mix, where people from anywhere can come in to contribute, connect with others and grow together. I can remember @hersoid asking me in a space some time this year if I'd experienced racism in my journey here as an artist. At the time, my answer was simple and straightforward, "No". But something happened two days ago that's left me in doubt and questioning to what extent are non-white artists are experiencing racism here. I became a victim of racial abuse, for no apparent reason, while I was complimenting a fellow creative. Being someone who has built really amazing friendships with people from all backgrounds here, of course this didn't bother me much, but then again I began to imagine the ways in which racism can present itself. This post by @ElaebiAmaremo has been revolving in my mind, while some people may choose to display their hatred openly, others might choose to do so covertly(and this is more scary).
