Yesterday, I supported the South Dakota Army National Guard by hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for their new Watertown Vehicle Maintenance Shop. This investment sends a clear message: South Dakota supports our soldiers. In my State of the State Address, I declared that national security is South Dakota’s next big industry, and this project supports that mission. This groundbreaking isn’t just about a building. It’s about the men and women who serve, it’s about readiness, and it’s about delivering results for South Dakota.

I served in the @SD_Guard for 6 years, so it is my true honor to serve as Commander in Chief of our National Guard. South Dakota is the freest state in the Union, and that wouldn’t be possible without the brave men and women in uniform. We celebrated our military and veterans at Military Appreciation Day in Sturgis.

Our students briefed the delegation on the impactful research emerging from our DSU + AI Sweden exchange program. Sioux Falls is incredibly proud to be the home of the 114th Fighter Wing, employing men and women across the region and ensuring military readiness for when our state and country calls on them. Tuesday I was welcomed on based for mission briefings, an insider view of operations, and a ride in a F-16 Fighting Falcon. What an honor to see firsthand how the 114th Fighter Wing stays ready to serve South Dakota and the nation! ✈️ Fire away!

Our @SD_Guard is supporting Border Patrol in the Del Rio Sector to protect the territorial integrity of the United States. The 109th Engineer Battalion has served both under the previous administration and now under @POTUS Trump, and their mission has been a night and day difference. Now, they’re able to help secure our nation.

Our @SD_Guard is a huge support to @SDWildlandFire in their fire suppression efforts in the Black Hills. I signed an Executive Order to provide standing authorization for the Guard to support SDWF with firefighting. This will keep our Black Hills communities strong and safe.

Tonight, the @SD_Guard details air resource preparation for wildfires. The guard has already provided air support for three wildfires this year , including a more than 37,000 fire acre on the Cheyenne River Reservation last week.

The men and women serving in South Dakota’s National Guard make me so proud to be their Commander in Chief. 23 @sd_guard troops deployed to Suriname to provide medical and dental services as part of Operation Gran Mati (which means “good friend.”) They helped over 900 medical patients and over 650 dental patients.
