So this is a big development.
the 311 app, which has always been Public Works, is now apparently being routed into SFPD's mass surveillance control center.
Which is actually a private enterprise of billionaire Chris Larsen, a name most people don't know, but should.
You gave us feedback, and we listened.
Earlier this summer, we shared how you can use the 311 app to report drug activity in your neighborhood. You noted gaps in the app's protocol.
So the city took action and updated the software for the first time to make sure drug activity reports are accurately tracked, reported, and routed to the right departments.
Apps like 311 are a digital portal for the city to hear from you. Responsive government means listening to you, and continuously improving our systems to meet your needs.
Thank you to the Mayor's Office and the City Administrator's Office for working on this so fast and making our city systems better every day.

When “indie sleaze” was actually happening, it was just called indie. But as the era gets repackaged through playlists, party photos, and Pinterest boards, the Black artists who helped shape the era are being left out.
@Santigold, Spank Rock, and @kilokish shed light on the scene they experienced, the boxes the industry put them in, and how the people telling its story shape what gets remembered.

In 1996, De La Soul dropped "Stakes is High," the album that de facto set off the underground vs. mainstream wars of the late '90s and early 00s.
On its 30th anniversary, Oliver Wang and @adammansbach discussed its impact, its criticism of disposable albums-as-gangster movie, the title track, the Dilla contributions, how it aged, and more.

"My father Michael Massaroli...you do my dad's legacy and the legacy of all these victims no honor by using this tragedy to spread hate. We have seen a medley of people come up today, of all races, all religions, all creeds and this tragedy is just that, it's a tragedy. I've had to grow up and spend the past 25 years seeing people use it to hate on our Muslim brothers and sisters, to hate on people who don't look like them. That's wrong. That does no honor to the victims here...please stop."
