The more fossils scientists find, the messier some of their accepted date ranges become.  The discoveries being discussed in the article have extended the presence of certain fossils into rock layers where secular scientists didn't expect to find them. That includes Lystrosaurus, which was once treated as a reliable marker of the Triassic. And yet it has now turned up in Permian rocks!  John Woodmorappe argues that such range extensions weaken the use of fossils as rigid markers for time.  If they pop up where they were not supposed to be, then that creates issues for using fossils to date the rocks. The findings are far more consistent with ecological sorting and burial during the global Flood. John Scopes was convicted and fined $100.  So on paper, creationists won the Scopes Trial.  That was just on paper, though. Because Clarence Darrow’s questioning of William Jennings Bryan made him look foolish in front of a world that was watching. Further out from that, it painted Bible-believing Christians in the same light. The verdict might have looked like a victory.  But the cultural legacy was lost in return.
