To prepare for NASA’s Artemis IV mission to land astronauts on the lunar surface, SpaceX and Blue Origin have updated their concepts of operations for its landers.
These landers — Starship and Blue Moon — have concepts of operations different from one another. More below ⬇️

ALT Seen from behind the Moon during the Artemis II mission, the Moon and Earth align in the same frame, each partially illuminated by the Sun. The Moon’s surface appears in sharp detail in the foreground, while Earth sits much farther away, smaller and softly lit in the background. A faint reflection in the spacecraft window is also visible, subtly overlaying the scene. Though their phases differ, both are shaped by the same sunlight, revealing the geometry of the Sun–Earth–Moon system from deep space. Credit: NASA

Two chilly but very autumnal days in southern Germany seeing how the US Army’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team is training for a modern battlefield infested with drones and electronic warfare, informed heavily by lessons from Ukraine. Stories TK.

A Russian Geran-5 jet-powered drone intercepted by a regular Ukrainian STING developed by @wilendhornets , not the specialized STING-S designed to counter faster aerial targets.
While the standard STING isn’t designed to reliably intercept jet-powered drones, this shows that under the very specific conditions, it can still engage them.

NEW imagery update: Various levels of cleanup activities were observed at the three sites related to Mojdeh / Lavizan 2 following the March 2026 attacks: The main Mojdeh site was previously attacked in June 2025 and was undergoing rapid cleanup efforts, which the follow-on strikes in March 2026 appear to have effectively ended. After several months of little activity, the attacked, large engineering-type building just north of the main Mojdeh site is currently in the process of being fully dismantled and cleared. In the process, six containers that were stationed alongside the building before the attack were removed. The remnants of the destroyed large building cluster at Malek Ashtar University have been fully cleaned up and the space was turned into a large parking lot accommodating the many personnel vehicles on site. See the figures for an overview of the area after the June 2025 war but before the attacks in the March 2026; the various levels of cleanup activity around the area as of mid-September; and close-ups of the Mojdeh site, the engineering-type building, and the cleaned up area at Malek Ashtar University.

🚨🇮🇷 A catastrophic explosion and massive fire just ripped through Production Line 6 at the Iranian Aluminium Company (IRALCO) in Arak - the crown jewel of Iran’s metallurgy sector.
👉Both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the regular Iranian Army rely heavily on raw materials from IRALCO to manufacture critical defense components, ranging from advanced ballistic missile casings and drone airframes to conventional military hardware and armored vehicle plating.

The U.S. military has quietly been scaling back its presence at bases across the Middle East in recent days, according to two U.S. officials and two people familiar with the matter who spoke to NBC News. Troops at bases in Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait are among those moved, per one of the officials.
Earlier today, the State Department announced the U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia is reducing staff. Spokesperson Tommy Pigott cited Iranian supported Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including on civilian airports.
Chiefs of mission at multiple other posts were told they would operate with reduced staff, the officials said. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson said, “We regularly move U.S. service members and assets to optimize mission readiness.”
The sources said the moves respond to ongoing threats, including from Iran, and resemble drawdowns at the start of the war in February. One official and one person familiar said moving forces out of harm’s way is part of planning as President Donald J. Trump considers restarting major combat operations, potentially before or after the midterms. President Trump wrote on October 8th that the U.S. will not attack Iran before the November 3rd midterms.
NBC reports options presented to President Trump include strikes on tunnels or entrances at Iranian nuclear sites such as Pickaxe Mountain and on strategic islands including Kharg Island and Qeshm.

The U.S.-China Board of Trade:
You might recall a few weeks ago President Trump met with leader Xi of China at the White House. The summit provided more info on the board of trade and the new “30-for-30” framework.
The 30-for-30 framework proposes tariff reductions on $30 billion worth of each country’s imports.
My research explores the board of trade, what imports are on the proposed tariff reduction lists, and the likelihood this comes to fruition. Take a look!

Middle East oil flows averaged more than 24 million barrels per day (BPD) in the week through October 18th, above the prewar average of 23.3 million BPD, according to Kpler ship tracking data reported by The Wall Street Journal.
To accomplish this, tankers load inside the Persian Gulf and run through the Strait of Hormuz, often with their automatic identification system (AIS) off and under U.S. air cover along Oman’s coast, then transfer cargo to other ships near Oman before returning. That route moved about 14 million barrels a day, or 82% of prewar levels, in preliminary figures. Pipelines across Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other alternative routes carry the rest of the regional total, or up to 10 million BPD. Kpler estimates about 40% of non Iranian Gulf crude oil bypassed the strait in September, up from 17% before the war.
The Journal counts about 30 attacks on ships this month. Brent crude was around $108 a barrel yesterday.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Russian-backed attacks against Germany’s Leipzig-Halle Airport weeks ago was the beginning of a wider upscaled campaign of both hybrid and direct attacks against NATO and EU nations ordered directly by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Per the report, which cites European intelligence officials, the Lewis becoming increasingly dissatisfied with lacking efforts on the ground and U.S.-brokered negotiations with Ukraine that have yet to merit the outcome President Putin wants.

Since the American President announced the energy ceasefire a week ago, Russia has deliberately attacked Ukraine’s energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times. Last night alone, there were strikes on substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions. Tens of thousands of families remain without power. Energy workers and repair crews are working virtually around the clock to restore electricity supply. Overnight, the Russians also struck residential buildings in our regions. As of now, 12 people have been reported injured, including two children. Two people have been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. This morning, there was a strike on an agricultural enterprise in Volyn. All necessary services are working at the site.
In total, over this past week, the Russians have attacked Ukraine with almost 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, most of them ballistic. The main targets of these strikes are energy facilities – the Russians are trying to cause a blackout. And America should see that Russia is not taking any reciprocal steps in response to sanctions relief or agreements. On the contrary, they take every signal of an opportunity to make money as proof that their bet on war is paying off and they can keep fighting. It is because of this position of Russia’s that the war continues, not because Ukraine is rightfully defending itself. It is Russia that must face pressure for peace to have a chance. Thank you to everyone who understands this and helps.

Pickaxe Mountain Imagery Update:
Vantor Technologies imagery from October 7, 2026, shows that the Eastern tunnel entrances remain blocked by earth. The earthen mound roadblocks leading to the Western tunnel portals also remain in place. See Figures 1 and 2. The two-month-long restricted access reinforces the assessment that the facility is currently neither operational nor continuing major construction. It supports public reporting that the facility contains valuable equipment and/or materials, such as centrifuges and centrifuge components, believed by Israeli intelligence to have been moved into the tunnel facility following the 12-Day War, as reported by the Wall Street Journal in July 2026.
Regarding an attack on the site, a combination of what was done at Natanz and Fordow in June 2025 and at Shahid Boroujerdi in Spring 2026 appears to make the most sense — using a series of bunker busters to target vulnerabilities in the mountain, such as ventilation shafts, coupled with collapsing entrances and destroying utilities and other support infrastructure outside of the tunnel. We have identified both a probable and a possible ventilation shaft location at Pickaxe mountain using satellite imagery. That said, it is possible that the U.S. government decides, based on the information it has on the tunnel site, that the MOAB, which is not a bunker buster but creates the most powerful non-nuclear shockwave, is best to inflict damage on the site. According to CNN reporting this is being considered. While Iran has a lot of experience building military tunnels and commonly adds blast traps by the entrances to prevent shockwaves from traveling down into the facility, these methods are designed to protect against much smaller shockwaves compared to the massive one created by the MOAB. Such an attack could place Pickaxe mountain in the same category that Natanz and Esfahan have been in for more than a year now: Forced, monitored closure, with lack of information about extent of damage inside.
