Scientists have finally mapped the full nerve network of the human clitoris for the first time, three decades after mapping male anatomy. For nearly thirty years, detailed anatomical maps of male reproductive nerves have guided surgical practice, while the nerve pathways of the clitoris remained largely unmapped. Utilizing advanced high-resolution X-ray imaging and 3D modeling on post-mortem human tissue, researchers successfully delineated the entire trajectory of the main sensory nerves and their branching sub-networks. The study revealed that these dorsal nerves branch out in a complex, tree-like pattern extending into surrounding tissues, overturning decades of incomplete anatomical textbook assumptions. This discovery carries clinical implications for pelvic, reconstructive, and gender-affirming surgeries. Prior to this research, surgeons lacked precise anatomical guides to reliably avoid nerve damage during complex procedures near the vulva, which frequently put patients at risk for loss of sensation or function. By establishing an accurate, high-definition roadmap of clitoral innervation, medical professionals can now adopt nerve-sparing surgical techniques, improving post-operative outcomes, patient quality of life, and equitable healthcare standards. October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness Month. Every year, sudden cardiac arrest changes lives in an instant. Raising awareness about prevention, CPR, AED access, and early intervention can help save lives. Throughout October, we’ll share educational resources, patient stories, advocacy updates, and ways you can help make a difference in your community. Join us as we work to improve outcomes for patients and families affected by sudden cardiac arrest. bit.ly/4hsByW0 #SCAAwarenessMonth #SuddenCardiacArrest #CPRSavesLives #HeartRhythm #EPeeps @UpBeatbyHRS

I’m a scientist. I need to say this because the AI hype is getting ridiculous. AI can design a molecule in seconds. That doesn’t mean it discovered a drug. It discovered something we scientists have never been short of: Something to test. Someone still has to make it. Run the experiment. Measure whether it works. Check whether it’s toxic. And ultimately prove it works in the real world. AI hype tells us: ā€œPrediction is discovery.ā€ ā€œSimulation is experimentation.ā€ ā€œGenerating a molecule is developing a drug.ā€ It isn’t. AI is making ideas incredibly cheap. But every new idea creates something AI cannot generate: Evidence. And the more hypotheses AI produces, the more experiments we’re going to need. That’s the irony nobody seems to be talking about. AI may not make laboratories obsolete. It may make them more valuable than ever. You can speedrun the thinking. You can’t speedrun reality.

Mammograms are key to early detection of breast cancer, and they can also provide clues to heart health. A 2022 study showed women who have calcium build-up within the arteries of the breast are at a 51% higher risk for heart disease and stroke than women who do not. Ask your doctor if you’re due for a mammogram.

This is about one thing and one thing alone. Steering our research dollars for cancer, heart disease, and new infectious diseases to Trump’s political allies and friends. Not only is it corrupt, but it’s going to interfere with life-saving scientific research—delaying possible cures for diseases that affect millions of Americans every single year.
Breaking News: Federal officials are drafting an executive order that would help cement President Trump’s ability to control billions of dollars in scientific grants funded by the National Institutes of Health. nyti.ms/4yhi6RS

🚨BREAKING 🦠 On Friday, the US CDC arbitrarily shifted higher COVlD levels into lower categories depicted with cooler colors. Much of what was Very High is now "High." What was High is now "Moderate" or "Low." Low is "Very Low." šŸ”¹2 states/territories artificially shifted from High to Moderate (MS, GU) šŸ”¹5 shifted from Moderate to Low (CA, TX, AK, WA, NV) šŸ”¹4 shifted from Low to Very Low (AZ, AR, LA, NC) During intense surges, states will rarely get classified as Very High anymore. Presently, transmission is rising across the US, with a 75% chance of a wave, but states will be depicted in blue (Very Low) much longer, making communities less prepared. #Bluewashing Normally, when the CDC makes a methodology change, they flag it prominently on each of their COVlD monitoring pages. This time, there was no alert and no explanation. Major changes were confined to COVlD, not Influenza A, and not RSV. The questionable change was made in the middle of rising transmission across most of the country; 15 states already have COVlD outbreaks, and others may soon join the ranks. These are serious ethics concerns that warrant investigative journalism. These issues are aggravated by delayed reporting at High/Very High monitoring sites. Sites with 1-week reporting delays get excluded when the CDC calculates current levels. For example, only 16% of the sites online in Texas (3 of 19) report High/Very High levels, but 90% of those with a 1-week reporting delay (18 of 20) have High/Very High levels, leading the state to get classified as "Low" when really High. These issues snowball and can easily push a state down 1-2 categories when experiencing significant COVlD outbreaks. The good news is that the individual wastewater monitoring site data are still valid. The bad news is that the CDC maps and level descriptions will now mislead the casual user. Think: "Good data, bad use of data." At PMC, we told you that if there was any funny business at the CDC, we would warn you right away. We diagnosed the issue immediately and will still report accurate COVlD information. Expect further national news coverage this week. Journalists are welcome to reach out.

I’m a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes. Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism. Breaking up vaccines will mean children have to get more shots to get the same protection, not fewer shots. It will increase hesitancy and make children less safe. Parents should listen to their child’s pediatrician about vaccines rather than listening to an inaccurate executive order. This is so wrong. xitter.cf/axios/status/208688294…

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists noticed that a SARS-CoV-2 infection can ā€œwake upā€ other, dormant viruses already present in the body. A new study extends those and subsequent observations, documenting viral reactivation for a cohort of more than 1000 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 before mid-2021. The findings provide a detailed picture of the hidden viruses that become active at different points of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, and link reactivation of some of them to more severe COVID-19 and to lingering symptoms, such as fatigue, that are the hallmark of Long Covid.
