To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the Bush Institute is publishing a new series: "Democracy is a verb." It explores America’s core values, the institutions that power our democracy, the people who serve it, and pop culture’s role in it. Sure, we know democracy isn’t technically a verb – but we believe it should be! A healthy liberal democracy depends on action and active citizens – because democracy works only when we engage and participate.

Q: Do immigrants displace American workers?
A: "Immigrants complement American workers, and studies show that immigration increases the wages and employment of native-born workers. Immigrants don't just show up to work–they consume goods and services, just like native-born Americans, increasing demand and helping expand the economy", said Laura Collins @lvtcollins, Director, Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute.
