FanDuel laid bare the predatory reality of the commercialized sports betting industry when they took $1.5 million from a Philadelphia fan, then reeled him back in with a personal video from @bryceharper3.
Using the face of the @Phillies to help incentivize a man to lose his family’s life savings is criminal.
Lawmakers must act now and enact a total ban on all gambling VIP and loyalty programs before more lives are ruined.

Northwestern University head football coach David Braun is the most recent prominent sports figure to spotlight the failure of legalizing commercialized sports gambling across the country:
"I’m telling you what, I got 11-year-old and 9-year-old boys at home and I am terrified of how addictive gambling is... It’s predatory. It’s messed up what’s going on. You look at 18-25 year old young men out there right now and the predatory nature of this stuff—it’s really scary."

Over the past four years alone, Nebraskan citizens have lost more than $850 million of their own personal wealth to casinos and the lottery.
The number of Nebraskans seeking treatment for gambling addiction has surged by 137% over the past seven years—a spike driven largely by casino expansion.
Now just imagine putting a casino in every Nebraskan's pocket.
Legalizing online sports betting in Nebraska will drive up rates of suicide, depression, bankruptcy, and broken marriages, and tear families apart just as we’ve seen in states that have made this mistake before.

Congress needs to ban commercialized gambling advertising just like it does for other known dangerous and addictive products.
New Jersey is one of the nation's biggest predatory gambling states. The result of their public policy has been such a failure that state officials were forced to step in.
State officials were recently forced to step in with what they described as, "Mandatory Data-Driven Responsible Gambling Requirements."
In their official announcement, state officials went so far as to label licensed operators "unscrupulous"—proving they recognize the devastation being done to local communities yet the state continues to let them operate as business as usual.

FanDuel laid bare the predatory reality of the commercialized sports betting industry yet again by offering free zoo entry, face painting, and snacks to its VIP members and their families—normalizing predatory gambling for children.
If a tobacco company sponsored "Boo at the Zoo" to normalize smoking for children, public outrage would be instant. Psychiatrist Frank James put it best:
“We need to look at what we learned in the past and apply it to gambling… If Boo at the Zoo was sponsored by a tobacco company, we would have a different reaction to it… The event is reminiscent of how the tobacco industry found creative ways to market tobacco and cigarettes to adolescents.”
Using family-friendly events to normalize an addictive product for kids is criminal. Lawmakers must act now and ban all gambling VIP programs immediately.

"Stop Predatory Gambling, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and Texans Against Gambling filed a 37-page amicus brief Wednesday in Flaherty v. Kalshi. That case involves whether prediction market operator Kalshi may offer so-called 'sports-event contracts' outside the bounds of state sports gambling laws."

Nicole Noren spent 24 years at ESPN as a decorated producer, earning Emmy, Murrow, and Peabody awards.
But when the network integrated predatory gambling apps into its network, she walked away, boldly declaring, 'I’m not going to have blood on my hands.'"
This is what living by the values we say we believe in looks like.

Just like Big Tobacco, Big Tech and Big Pharma before them, predatory gambling operators are profiting off human ruin. From targeting addicted gamblers who are $1.5 million in debt to driving up bankruptcies and suicides, the gambling industry has gone unchecked for far too long.
It’s time for our leaders to take action against predatory gambling companies for the harm they're causing Americans, just as we did with other predatory industries. Former FTC senior policy adviser @JonSchweppe put it best:
“They’re isolating customers and psychologically manipulating them to part with as much money as possible… It is time to put the online sportsbooks in the hot seat.”
This morning we sent a letter to the @StateFairOfTX to immediately end its partnership with DraftKings which offered free parking for fairgoers on Oct. 9.
The State Fair is lending its trusted name and family-friendly reputation to a predatory gambling operator who is inflicting life-changing harm upon the American people, especially young adults and teens.

Wall Street firms have filed for hundreds of single-team ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) that track individual NHL and MLB team season statistics through futures contracts.
Unlike traditional ETFs that invest in productive, revenue-generating business assets, these funds hold zero underlying assets and function as sports wagers disguised behind a ticker symbol.
Because they lack asset backing and reset every season, a team's poor performance directly translates into lost wealth that can break an investor's retirement fund and leave them in ruins. Evan Mills, a financial advisor at Scholar Advising, sums it up best:
“For avid sports gamblers and sports fanatics, their team can already break their heart with a loss. Now there’s a way it can break your heart and break your retirement fund at the same time.”
