Can anyone think another slice of civil society or the economy that arranges almost 60,000 speaking events per year?
Higher education isn’t where free speech is threatened, it’s where all the free speech is happening in the first place.
Reminder: latest OfS figures for the university sector in England show that of 59,574 events organised with an external speaker, 53 were not approved. Yes, that's 0.09% of events. #tomorrowspaperstoday
Little to fear? Maybe.
Real loss is the 1000s of hours of time that student officers, uni staff, pols and journos will pour into this non-issue.
Imagine how HE could be transformed if all that attention and political capital was spent on solving the sector's *actual* problems?

International Women’s Day is the same day that schools in England return. I vote that all women who’ve been looking after kids get a day off everything to sit and eat cake because yes women have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and have done more homeschooling
