ICAN Seeks to Turn Academia Profession Partnership into Measurable Outcomes The 62nd President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, FCTI, has called for a more structured partnership between ICAN and Modibbo Adama University, Yola, with emphasis on student development, research and graduate employability. Hajia Seghosime made the call during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibrahim Umar, on Monday, 14 September 2026, ahead of the 21st Northern Zonal Accountants’ Conference. She proposed deeper collaboration in student professional pathways, curriculum development, internships and mentorship, research and knowledge exchange, as well as greater participation of academics and students in ICAN’s intellectual and professional platforms. The ICAN President noted that emerging technologies and changing workplace demands require closer links between academia and the profession to equip graduates with relevant skills, sound judgement and ethical discipline. She stressed that such partnerships should produce measurable outcomes, including more students entering professional pathways, stronger research engagement, expanded internship opportunities and graduates better prepared for the workplace. Hajia Seghosime reaffirmed ICAN’s readiness to work with Modibbo Adama University to translate the proposed collaboration into practical initiatives that advance professional education and national development.
