LA-15 stands for "linear accelerator 15," counting from LA-1, the first klystron powered medical linac invented @StanfordRadOnc by Henry Kaplan & Edward Ginzton. Dr. Kaplan treated the first patient in 1956, a 7 mo old with bilateral retinoblastoma, saving his vision & his life.

Construction for the very first Mevion S250-FIT proton therapy facility in the world has begun at Stanford Cancer Center! We visited the Mevion factory recently and we are looking forward to seeing the unit merged with the construction site in 2025!
