Balclutha - The Ship That Refused to Die. Built 1886 in Glasgow as a steel giant to carry grain around Cape Horn. She survived 3 shipwrecks, carried lumber, salmon, and even became a movie star in Hollywood (Mutiny on the Bounty, 1935). In 1954 she was meant for scrap.

San Francisco paid $25,000 to save her. Today she sits at Hyde Street Pier - 139 years old - the last of her kind on the US West Coast. From Scotland to San Francisco, from cargo to cinema to museum. Some ships don't retire. They reinvent.
