The world of Bhatkal town turned upside down when it was first lab of Hindutva in Karnataka. Large number of Newaythi or Konkani speaking Muslims had become target & that primarily happened because they were a very prosperous minority. Many moved to West and Gulf because of riots
FYI, the wife of incoming Senator @AbdulElSayed is Dr Sarah Jukaku, whose family traces their roots from the Karnataka town of Bhatkal. For those who know, this otherwise sleepy mostly Muslim fishing town was turned upside down when the RSS and the BJP invaded it in the 1990s and made it the base for their expansion in coastal Karnataka.
