I was recently given the updated edition of the classic late 1960's book "Lead Mining in the Peak District". Full of information but easy to read and absorb. It also shows walking routes round the main mining areas. @ViaGelliaRedux @burngold @FrankWAuthor @BElliottAuthor
The book also confirms what I saw last week is the Odin Sough. It mentions a low stone-arched portal which can be seen behind the modern flow measurement weir. @ViaGelliaRedux
More book bargains. Inst. of Structural engineers Jubilee Journal; Do you know this building @FrankWAuthor? BC Electric Co. offices, Vancouver;
One for @ViaGelliaRedux, early coal mining on the Derbyshire Leicestershire border; and the Rosedale Mines of North Yorkshire;
More from a busy week! I don't usually bother with beer festivals. A friend invited me along to Kelham Island Museum on Friday 🍺🍺🍺.
Further into the Museum. Display cases from Moore and Wright, and Chesterman. Everything there made in Sheffield. M&W site is now a Supermarket, Chesterman's is an Insurance office 🥴.
Friday was Dragline Day! Overalls on for the first time in about ten years 🥴. An opencast mining site near Leeds, now restored as a country park with washlands for downstream flood protection. @FrankWAuthor @burngold @NeilRingdahl
Mining on a large scale with 2000-ton draglines, but the coal was cleaned by hand before loading! @FrankWAuthor @NeilRingdahl @burngold
A nightmare scenario! Three Banjos on stage 🫣! @FrankWAuthor 🤣. Invited to the Borough of Barnsley this week. Cubley Hall, a lovely venue with food, beer and music @HellingtonBoots
