🤥🚨4 days ago @RhunapIorwerth said in an interview, “we were asking for an inquiry at the beginning, then the UK Inquiry came along,” implying that the UK Inquiry had satisfied his call for an inquiry and seeking to justify his change of position. The @covidinquiryuk was formed in June 2022. This ⬇️is @RhunapIorwerth in March 2024. A bit of a porker there Rhun. @Sioned_W @Heledd_Plaid @cefincampbell @mabonapgwynfor @DafyddTrystan @Adamprice @PeredurPlaid @DelythJewellAM @WillHayCardiff @CHafJones
First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth has confirmed that the Welsh Government’s Covid review won't have statutory powers to call witnesses and testimony - after concerns raised by @CovidBereaved.

We’re just about to send all MSs the costed proposal for a statutory Wales Covid Inquiry. It includes Terms of Reference and structures. It’s what we and @mabonapgwynfor worked on with Brian (our solicitor) this year. Ignore any other voices commenting on here, they don’t speak for us. They are just trying to make themselves relevant again 🤦‍♀️ A lot of work has gone into delivering this proposal as we have learned from previous inquiries (good and bad). Brian set up the Infected blood inquiry - he knows his onions as they say! So yeah, please ignore irrelevant chatter coming from a former Co-Lead who left under a cloud last year! We’ve got this 💪 We’re strong, united and we all know what is happening 💛. Our integrity is intact, sadly @Plaid_Cymru’s isn’t. But, the dial may move. We stand in hope that Plaid Cymru has integrity 🙏

Rhun before getting some power ⬇️ 🥴What happened @RhunapIorwerth? Who got to you? @mabonapgwynfor @DelythJewellAM @Sioned_W @Heledd_Plaid @PeredurPlaid @Adamprice
The case for a Wales specific Covid Inquiry couldn’t be stronger after today’s events This revelation shatters the belief that Welsh Gov’s performance in the pandemic isn’t worthy of deeper scrutiny If this is what’s uncovered on day 1 of the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 module, what else don’t we know?

🔂Plaid Cymru are doing a spectacular U-turn. 🤥@mabonapgwynfor @RhunapIorwerth et al straight faced lied to us. And now @DafyddTrystan is the man to rush it all in. 🌹At least @WelshLabour were sneaky….this is pretty blatant @Plaid_Cymru 🤦‍♀️ 👻Political suicide in your first term. 🎁You’ve gifted the opposition parties.
We’ve been asked to comment on @Plaid_Cymru’s position on a Wales Covid Inquiry. Here it is - you’ll have to zoom in sorry! ⬇️ @mabonapgwynfor @Heledd_Plaid - I hope you’re having a quieter Friday afternoon than us 😂🤦‍♀️

.@AlunTredegar is being kind by saying “disingenuous”. And we can confirm that @WelshGovernment categorically does have the power to call a statutory public inquiry. @scotgov also has the power and they used it by calling a @covidinquirysco. Diolch @AlunTredegar - just wish you’d had the courage to speak up back then. Your one vote would have swung it. Let’s hope @Plaid_Cymru find their integrity @RhunapIorwerth @mabonapgwynfor @DafyddTrystan @Adamprice @DelythJewellAM @Sioned_W @Heledd_Plaid @LlyrGruffydd @markjhooper @PeredurPlaid

.@mabonapgwynfor - remember all the defending we did for you guys before the election! If you any integrity- be honest and don’t make us out to be liars here! We spent hours creating a statutory inquiry. We even gave you the £10m budget figure! 🤦‍♀️ @RhunapIorwerth

So @RhunapIorwerth - we never got an answer to this ⬇️ Do you honestly think that @vaughangething is going to appear voluntarily and truthfully in front of your review? If the answer is yes, pour us some of what you’re having! 🥴@DafyddTrystan @mabonapgwynfor @DarrenMillarMS @HelenJennerMS @Heledd_Plaid @DelythJewellAM @PeredurPlaid @LlyrGruffydd @Kiera__Marshall @AndrewRTDavies @Sioned_W @siangwenfelin
Following today’s reports and evidence that suggests Vaughan Gething misled the Covid Inquiry and the Senedd on deleting messages during the Covid pandemic, I’ve written to Baroness Hallett, Chair of the Covid Inquiry, asking her to recall the now First Minister as a witness.

Very poor statement from the First Minister. Statutory Powers to compel witnesses is an absolute must in whatever they do to get answers about what happened in Wales during the pandemic If there's no Statutory Powers, those in charge will not give evidence. It's that simple

It's not impressive & it's not what I hoped for and believed in when I joined @Plaid_Cymru & voted for them
It’s starting to appear that all politicians are the same 😢

Seriously @Plaid_Cymru these changes are easy wins: - Remove alcohol tax increase - STV voting system - covid inquiry - somehow getting NHS lists down.

We’ve kept all the receipts. Let’s hope they do the right thing. I believe that @Heledd_Plaid and colleagues are good people. So fingers crossed! We won’t walk away quietly and accept a non-statutory review! That would be a huge betrayal! #ShitTimes

The Inquiries Act 2005 was established to provide a legal framework for setting up and running public inquiries. Why is @WelshGovernment so scared of it? #NotAnotherReview 🥴 Covid Bereaved Families for Justice Cymru welcomes the Welsh Government’s announcement of a review into its handling of the pandemic. But without statutory powers, this risks becoming yet another toothless review. Statutory powers would ensure witnesses can be compelled to give evidence, documents disclosed, and proper accountability secured. They offer the best chance of uncovering the truth and learning lessons that could save lives. So we ask: if the Welsh Government is serious about transparency and accountability, why wouldn’t it choose to use statutory powers? Bereaved families deserve nothing less.

Gething and Drakeford lied to the Senedd and to everyone in Wales. They were responsible for testing but they did not have enough resources. Instead of being honest, they hid behind non-existent science. 26 out of 52 residents died in one West Wales care home within days. Are @Plaid_Cymru going to continue the big cover up at @WelshGovernment? We’re seeking a criminal investigation, do @Plaid_Cymru want to be complicit in the cover up? This is serious 😡 @DafyddTrystan @mabonapgwynfor @RhunapIorwerth

Anything to say @vaughangething @MarkDrakeford ? The @covidinquiryuk has totally rejected your claim that you acted on the “science”. You lied because you didn’t have the amount of tests that you needed. We all knew that. @DafyddTrystan @mabonapgwynfor @RhunapIorwerth @Heledd_Plaid @PeredurPlaid @DelythJewellAM
😡 PRESS RELEASE - We are furious. @WelshGovernment knowingly hid behind the “science” to cover up for the lack of testing capacity. They misled everyone in Wales. They lied. We must now have what Scotland has, what all in @Plaid_Cymru campaigned for - A STATUTORY WALES COVID INQUIRY. Anything less will be a betrayal to bereaved families. @DafyddTrystan @mabonapgwynfor @RhunapIorwerth @Heledd_Plaid @CarrieAHarper @as_penarth @DelythJewellAM @jason_oco @DarrenMillarMS @AndrewRTDavies @WelshConserv @RUKWales

We’ll be in London on Tuesday to hear the findings of Module 6 (care homes) of the @covidinquiryuk. Sadly, we already know that Wales hasn’t been scrutinised in any depth. Our expectations are small. We desperately need that statutory #WalesCovidInquiry. Care home residents were intentionally put at risk in Wales. Nothing has changed and nobody held accountable. Even worse, @MarkDrakeford et al lied in the @SeneddWales. @DafyddTrystan @mabonapgwynfor @RhunapIorwerth
